Ciavarella’s latest appeal centered on statute of limitations claim

<p>NUANGOLA &#8212; Since cold weather season is almost here, council president Joseph Tucker said this week the need for a new truck for the maintenance department has reach a critical stage and financing a purchase will be a challenge.</p><p>Tucker said attempts to secure a state Local Share Grant &#8212; funds from casino gambling &#8212; have failed to produce results in spite of appeals to state Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Newport Township. As a result, Tucker said council may have to finance a purchase through Liquid Fuels allocations it receives from the state as well as money from the general fund.</p><p>At issue is the matter of the borough dump truck catching fire during plowing in March and it being designated by the borough&#8217;s insurer as a total loss.</p><p>Tucker said he will perhaps be seeking &#8212; because of the age of municipal vehicles &#8212; estimates for not only a dump truck but also a pickup. He hopes to have estimates for council&#8217;s consideration at next month&#8217;s meeting.</p><p>In other recent business:</p><p>&#8226; It was noted that council would continue to act aggressively against owners with &#8220;blighted&#8221; properties.</p><p>&#8226; Councilman Michael Johnson reported that the Nuangola Lake Association awarded a $7,950 contract to Aquatics Analysis of Middletown, N.J., for the chemical treatment of underwater vegetation in Lake Nuangola. The lake association operates independent of council.</p><p>&#8226; Johnson, who also serves as chairman of the Nuangola Sewer Authority, said because of issues involving other municipalities there is little movement on Nuangola being incorporated into the Mountain Top Area Joint Sanitary Authority.</p><style>
