WILKES-BARRE &#8212; It didn&#8217;t take long to sum up Lake-Lehman&#8217;s first half Thursday night.&#8220;First half was awful,&#8221; Lehman coach Jerry Gilsky said. &#8220;Penalties killed us. Defensively, we&#8217;re pretty much holding them, but penalties are getting them back in and they got that quick score. It was awful.&#8221;Second half, much better.Lehman tore open a close game with 36 second-half point to defeat GAR 50-12 in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 3A-A football game at Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium.Lehman improved to 2-2. GAR fell to 0-4.&#8220;We played a good first half,&#8221; said GAR coach Paul Wiedlich Jr., whose team trailed 14-6 at the break. &#8220;Then we had some guys go down to injuries and things like that. Again, it comes down to the offseason. We always say the fall asks what you did in the offseason.&#8220;Our underclassmen are definitely learning by this example.&#8221;Thursday was an extension of GAR&#8217;s rough season. The Grenadiers used their third starting quarterback. They fumbled 10 times, amazingly losing just two. They turned over the ball five times with interceptions by Lehman&#8217;s Liam O&#8217;Brien, Casey Kaminski and Scott Robbins pushing the turnover total to 12 through four games.Still, GAR was in the game until a disastrous third quarter.A failed onside kick set up Lehman at its own 43-yard line. Nine plays later, fullback Matt Kurtz scored on his fourth 7-yard run of the drive. Then, after posting a safety on an intentional grounding in the end zone, the Black Knights scored on a six-play drive after the free kick.Zach Kojadinovich capped the possession with a 9-yard TD run, increasing the lead to 30-6 with 4:59 to play in the third quarter.GAR scored on the first play of the fourth quarter on a 4-yard pass from Ronald Peguero to Kadin Taylor. The Grenadiers, though, had turnovers on their next two possessions.Lehman added two more scores in the fourth on a 39-yard run by Kojadinovich and a 5-yard run by Robbins.The Black Knights piled up 387 yards on the ground. Trey Borger led the ground game with 141 yards and a touchdown on 15 rushes. Kojadinovich added 97 more and Kurtz finished with 73.GAR finished with 122 yards. The Grenadiers haven&#8217;t gained more than 175 yards in a game this season.
