Our View: Diamonds for preserving a county gem

<p>Businesses and citizens across America are opening their hearts and wallets to aid our fellow countrymen in Texas and Florida.</p><p>Wal-Mart, the NFL, the American Red Cross and the Diocese of Scranton, to name a few, are all raising funds for the unfortunate victims of the two recent hurricanes.</p><p>The U.S. Senate approved billions of dollars of aid for victims of Hurricane Harvey by a margin of 80 to 17. But I think it is important to point out that Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Zionsville, was one of 17 senators to vote against this aid.</p><p>Wyoming Valley residents who lived through the ravages of Hurricane Agnes in 1972 and Hurricane Lee in 2011 know just how important that help is in the wake of a devastating storm. Shame on Pat Toomey for his heard-hearted vote at a time when Americans are suffering and in need.</p><p><strong>Tom Bubul</strong></p><p>West Pittston</p><style>
