Priest paying back money misused from charitable account, no criminal charges filed

<p>A federal judge has allowed an inmate held at the U.S. Bureau of Prison&#8217;s most secure and restrictive facility to appear by video next month for sentencing in the murder of correctional officer Eric Williams.</p><p>U.S. District Judge A Richard Caputo on Friday granted the request of Jessie Con-ui, who earlier this month waived his right to appear in person in court on Oct. 12.</p><p>Con-ui, 40, is held at the U.S. Penitentiary, Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence, Colo., pending his mandatory life sentence without parole for his first-degree murder conviction of Williams. The super-maximum-security prison holds the most dangerous federal prisoners and is known as the &#8220;Alcatraz of the Rockies.&#8221;</p><p>Earlier this year Con-ui was present for his jury trial in Scranton. During the proceedings he was housed at the State Correctional Institution-Dallas in Jackson Township after being transferred from the Colorado prison where he had been incarcerated the unprovoked stabbing and beating death of Nanticoke native Williams, 34, in February 2013.</p><p>Con-ui had been serving a drug-trafficking sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary, Canaan, in Wayne County at the time of the attack on Williams and was to be released later that year to serve a life sentence in Arizona for a 2002 gang-related murder.</p><p>In June, a jury found Con-ui guilty of the murder of Williams at the U.S. Penitentiary, Canaan, in Wayne County. However, when the penalty phase of the trial resumed, the jury could not reach a unanimous decision in July on a death sentence.</p><p>Caputo directed court and prison officials to set up the video link between the Colorado prison and the courtroom at the Max Rosenn U.S. Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre for the 10 a.m. sentencing on Oct. 12. The judge also ordered that one of Con-ui&#8217;s attorneys be present at the prison and the others in the courtroom.</p><style>
