Skillet apple pie takes American favorite and makes it easier to prepare

<p>The American Heart Association and Commonwealth Health recently planted a new community garden on the rooftop playground at the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA.</p><p>Dr. Douglas Coslett, chief medical officer for Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and chair of the 2017 Northeast PA Heart Ball, Dr. Ira Vohra, Commonwealth Health family medicine physician in Kingston, and Renita Fennick, Commonwealth Health director of communications, led students through some activities and lessons in the classroom to learn about healthy eating and growing fruits and vegetables before heading out to the garden. Each class took turns filling the planter boxes with soil and planting a crop of broccoli and cauliflower for late fall harvesting. Each child got to take home their own mini pail and scoop to practice gardening at home.</p><p>The community garden will provide hands-on experiences and nutritional learning opportunities for members of the community that participate in programs at the YMCA.</p><p>Pictured: Students at the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA show off dirty hands after planting their garden.
