<p>BERWICK &#8212; A man and woman are facing charges after a robbery plot failed and the man ended up being shot in the face and back by the intended victim, police say.</p><p>The incident occurred inside a vehicle in Berwick on Tuesday night.</p><p>James Hopper and Mekayla Hendricks, both of Berwick, planned to rob Tyler Kline at gunpoint, but Hopper was later shot by Kline, authorities report.</p><p>Berwick Police were dispatched at approximately 7 p.m. to the area of 122 E. 15th St. They found Kline standing near Hopper, who had suffered a gunshot wound to his face and at least one to his back.</p><p>Kline, of Beaver Springs, Snyder County, told police Hopper had tried to rob him at gunpoint and that he had shot Hopper in self-defense. Hopper tried to flee, and Kline followed him to 15th Street.</p><p>Kline told police the shooting occurred in a 1997 Cadillac on Pine Street.</p><p>When officers located the vehicle, they saw the rear driver&#8217;s-side door was open, and the back seat was covered in fresh blood. Two handguns were in plain view, with several bullet holes in the seat, they say.</p><p>A witness saw the vehicle turn onto Pine Street and pull to the side of the road. The witness then heard three gunshots coming from the area and saw two men fighting inside the Cadillac. The men exited the vehicle and continued to fight in the street.</p><p>Kline said he had met Hendricks on Facebook. Hendricks invited Kline to meet her, and told him to pick her up at a supermarket, police say.</p><p>When he arrived, Hendricks and Hopper approached his car. She said Hopper was a friend who needed a ride, and Hopper said he would give Kline money, according to authorities.</p><p>After Kline began driving, Hopper allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded money. Kline said he had none, and Hopper demanded that he strip off his clothing. Hendricks and Hopper began going through Kline&#8217;s pockets and wallet, officers report.</p><p>Kline was forced to drive &#8212; while nude from the waist down &#8212; to an ATM to make a withdrawal, police say.</p><p>Kline said he asked to put his underwear back on, and pulled over to do so.</p><p>Kline then took that opportunity to pull a handgun he had in the driver&#8217;s-side door and fired at Hopper, who was seated in the back.</p><p>Police say Hendricks gave them several different accounts of what happened until she was confronted with Kline&#8217;s statements. Hendricks then allegedly admitted to her involvement in setting up the meeting, and that the intention was to force Kline into giving Hopper his money. Hendricks says she did not know Hopper was bringing a gun.</p><p>Hopper was transported by ambulance to Berwick Hospital Center and then flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Hendricks was taken to the Berwick Hospital after complaining of anxiety and hearing loss.</p><p>Hopper was charged with robbery, kidnapping and related charges, while Hendricks was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and criminal attempt to commit theft.</p><p>Hendricks&#8217; bail was set at $150,000, which she did not post. She was lodged at the Columbia County Prison.</p><p>A warrant has been issued for Hopper, who remains hospitalized.</p><style>
