‘Jeopardy!’ champ wins fans with quirky antics, big bets

College Life: Taking breaks just as important as getting work done

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; It&#8217;s early October, but that doesn&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s too early to start thinking about the ski slopes.</p><p>At least, that&#8217;s true if you ask the folks at Top of the Slope.</p><p>Top of the Slope is an outdoor-goods shop that&#8217;s been helping Wilkes-Barre residents get their outdoors fix for more than 40 years, according to owner Michael Miscavage, who has owned the store since the 1980s.</p><p>This week, the shop will have a major Columbus Day sale. Miscavage said Top of the Slope will be moving leftover items from last year at &#8220;great prices,&#8221; but items throughout the store will be on sale.</p><p>&#8220;People can always come and get knowledge about outdoor activities,&#8221; Miscavage said, stressing that, contrary to what the name might imply, Top of the Slope works in plenty of outdoor activities besides skiing.</p><p>&#8220;We do skiing and snowboarding, but we also have things for hiking, backpacking, snow-shoeing,&#8221; Miscavage listed. &#8220;We give great advice.&#8221;</p><p>Miscavage said he and his employees are glad to help outdoors enthusiasts at all levels of experience, whether you&#8217;ve been skiing for decades or whether this will be your first season on the slope. The store even runs bus trips to ski resorts as the season goes on.</p><p>After you buy your equipment, the people at Top of the Slope will help you keep it in tip-top shape with a range of servicing options.</p><p>And all of this comes at the hands of people who know what they&#8217;re talking about, he said.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re nice guys, and we do what we sell,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Top of the Slope is located at 100 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, where it&#8217;s been since it first opened in 1972.</p><p>The ski shop is opened seven days a week.
