WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Meyers had installed the play during practice this week &#8212; a shovel pass to elusive wideout Reese Patronick.There were some hitches.&#8220;It was working well at first in practice, but we didn&#8217;t get it down pat exactly,&#8221; Patronick said. &#8220;But the last few days we got it down. Kind of a last-minute thing.&#8220;And it worked.&#8221;Very much so.On the opening drive of the second half, Patronick took the toss from Janssen Wilborn in stride, tore around the right side and found nothing but green in front of him. The 42-yard touchdown sparked the Mohawks to a 20-point second half and a 27-16 win over Tunkhannock Friday night at Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium.Leading just 7-3 at the half, the Mohawks (5-3) called the play on first-and-10 from the Tigers 42 after picking up a first down at midfield. Coach Jeff Labatch said his staff wasn&#8217;t waiting for a specific time to dial it up, but it couldn&#8217;t have worked out better.&#8220;I just saw daylight,&#8221; Patronick said.&#8220;That was a play specifically for him, and he ran it to perfection,&#8221; Labatch said.Meyers would follow it up with a blocked punt to set up a Kevin Dessoye touchdown before holding off a Tunkhannock rally to close out an important win.Wilborn turned in another strong game, rushing for 134 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 121 and the score to Patronick. The victory kept the Mohawks in playoff position in Class 3A with two games left in the regular season.Though Meyers claimed a 21-3 lead midway through the third quarter, the Tigers (1-7) didn&#8217;t go away quietly.After Tunkhannock downed a punt at the Meyers 1, the Mohawks fumbled it away while trying to dive out of the end zone to avoid a safety.WVC leading rusher Logan Cywinski (114 yards) scored from 2 yards out on the next play.After forcing a three-and-out, the Tigers got a big punt return from Garrett Hopkins and then converted a fourth-and-6 play when Zach Rogers threw a dart to Hopkins over the middle down to the 2. Cywinski scored again on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it 21-16 after a 2-point conversion run came up short.Tunkhannock had a chance to take the lead with time ticking down in the fourth, driving all the way for a first-and-goal from the Meyers 5. But with Cywinski getting a breather, the Mohawks defense stuffed two runs before a third-down shotgun snap ended up on the turf with Meyers able to recover to end the threat.Rajhan Woodson put the game away with a 1-yard touchdown in the final minute.&#8220;I&#8217;m glad we finished it off,&#8221; Labatch said. &#8220;We gave up a couple of scores. We thought we had it sealed, and we didn&#8217;t. We let them back in.
