Hunlock Creek man allegedly molested underage sisters for years

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A good Samaritan came to the aid of a Wilkes-Barre officer who was struggling with a city man suspected of being high on drugs, authorities say.</p><p>Dennis Lavar Hall, 39, continued to fight officers even after he was hit with a stun gun about 10 times, police report. He is now facing a felony charge of disarming a law enforcement officer for allegedly taking the policeman&#8217;s stun gun.</p><p>Here are more details from a criminal complaint:</p><p>Officer Corey Dumont was the first to arrive after officers were dispatched to reports of a hit-and-run on South Franklin Street on Wednesday night.</p><p>Witnesses said the driver struck a building after swerving in the roadway, then fled on foot.</p><p>Dumont located the driver, later identified as Hall, and gave chase. Dumont told Hall he was under arrest, but Hall kept one hand concealed in his pocket.</p><p>Fearing for his safety, Dumont attempted to deploy his stun gun but it failed. Hall allegedly punched Dumont multiple times and wrestled away his stun gun.</p><p>Dumont was able to slap the stun gun out of Hall&#8217;s hand and use his pepper spray. Dumont also ingested some of the spray himself, but he was able to free himself from Hall.</p><p>Dumont attempted to use the stun gun again, but it again failed. Hall ran away and Dumont gave chase. Dumont ordered Hall to place his hands behind his back, but he continued to fight, the stun gun having little effect.</p><p>A good Samaritan who was watching came to Dumont&#8217;s aid because he saw the officer was &#8220;struggling to keep the guy down with all his might.&#8221;</p><p>Dumont and the good Samaritan continued to struggle with Hall until Officer Ronald Knorr arrived and also used his stun gun on Hall.</p><p>The suspect kept fighting, but officers were eventually able to handcuff him and take him into custody. Hall showed signs of impairment, including glassy eyes and slurred speech.</p><p>Some of Hall&#8217;s blood was taken for a toxicology test, and it was stored as evidence.</p><p>In addition to the felony count of disarming an officer, Hall is also facing a felony charge of aggravated assault, along with related misdemeanors such as simple assault, reckless endangerment and driving under the influence.</p><p>He was arraigned Thursday morning before District Judge Thomas Sharkey, who set his bail at $25,000.</p><p>He was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility as he was unable to post bail.</p><p>Hall has a preliminary hearing set for Dec. 12 in front of Sharkey.</p><style>
