Burton and Blueger lead the WBS Pens to a 4-3 overtime win

<p>ALICIA CARR</p><p>Wyoming Seminary</p><p>Senior, midfielder</p><p>Arguably the most dangerous scorer in the WVC during the regular season, Carr finished second among the Blue Knights with 62 points and 22 goals and tied for the team lead with 18 assists. She hit the winning goal in overtime during a 2-1 victory over Wyoming Valley West that ultimately took Sem to the WVC Division 1 title. The Syracuse-bound standout also had two goals and an assist in a District 2 playoff opener before an injury and an ensuing position switch scaled back her production.</p><p>CAMERYN FORGASH</p><p>Valley West</p><p>Freshman, forward</p><p>The rookie exploded onto the WVC field hockey scene, quickly establishing herself as an unstoppable scorer. Forgash crashed the circle with a team-leading 61 points and 23 goals while helping Valley West to a second straight District 2 Class 2A title and proved instrumental in the school&#8217;s second-ever state championship game appearnance. She scored what proved to be the deciding goal in a 2-1 victory over Upper Perkiomen in a PIAA opener and hit the gol-ahead goal in a 3-1 second-round state win over Selinsgrove.</p><p>LYNEA GREGORY</p><p>Lake-Lehman</p><p>Senior, midfielder</p><p>Her winning goal in overtime sent Gregory and Lehman into a District 2 final and state playoff tournament for the fourth consecutive year, but her talent wasn&#8217;t limited to game-clinching shots. Long one of the elite defenders in the WVC, the Virginia Commonwealth commit finished among the top five in the league with 13 assists during the regular season and her leadership proved invaluable to an inexperienced team. Her two goals and an assist in a 5-2 victory over Wyoming Area in a battle of unbeatens led Lehman to a 19th straight regular season win.</p><p>KATIE KARPINSKI</p><p>Crestwood</p><p>Senior, defender</p><p>More known for keeping opponents away from the circle as a lock-down ace in the backfield that has her bound for St. Joe&#8217;s, Karpinski did whatever it took to turn around Crestwood&#8217;s slow start. Her ferocious shot toward the cage turned into an assist when the ball was tipped in for the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Dallas that completed a turnaround from an 0-3 start and lifted the Comets into their fifth straight District 2 title game and a sixth straight state playoff appearance.</p><p>KAYLA KRUK</p><p>Holy Redeemer</p><p>Senior, midfielder</p><p>Part of a 1-2 punch that took Redeemer to its second straight unbeaten WVC season and second straight District 2 playoff run, the Sacred Heart-bound Kruk had a knack for creating an offensive onslaught that overwhelmed the league&#8217;s Division 3 competition. Her 21 assists during the regular season led the WVC and she finished as the conference&#8217;s ninth-leading point producer with 31 points. Her keen play-making ability helped carry the Royals to a 24-game WVC unbeaten streak over the past two seasons and made them a District 2 Class A semifinalist for the second straight year.</p><p>MIA MAGNOTTA</p><p>Wyoming Seminary</p><p>Freshman, goalie</p><p>As a first-year high school goalie trusted with protecting the cage for a Seminary team that went to the state finals, Magnotta was fearless. She played her best games during the team&#8217;s biggest moments, including stopping 13 of 14 shots in an overtime victory over Valley West and an 11-save overtime effort in a WVC Division 1-clinching victory over Crestwood. She finished with a save percentage of .944, stopping 118 shots and allowing just seven goals all season. She excelled in the playoffs, where Magnotta shut out Lake-Lehman in the District 2 title game and Oley Valley in the state semifinals.</p><p>LEAH MULLERY</p><p>Holy Redeemer</p><p>Senior, forward</p><p>In her final season before heading off to Lehigh, Mullery made the biggest scoring impact in the WVC. Her 60 points led the WVC during the regular season as she split 20 goals and 20 assists to finish second in the league in both categories. Mullery was the heart and soul of an offense that rang up a 12-0 season for the second straight year while winning back-to-back Division 3 titles. She opened the playoff with a goal and three assists to help the Royals reach the District 2 Class A semifinal round for the second straight season.</p><p>AUBREY MYTYCH</p><p>Wyoming Seminary</p><p>Junior, forward</p><p>One of sparks to Sem&#8217;s unbeaten, Division 1 championship season, Mytych really lit it up in the playoffs to lead the Blue Knights to the District 2 Class A championship and into the PIAA title game. Her 29 points during the regular season were 11th in the league and her 12 goals made her a top-eight scorer, but nobody on Sem was better than Mytych at finding the cage during the postseason. She scored 10 goals and added five assists in seven playoff games, including a four-goal performance in a District 2 opener against Nanticoke Area and a hat trick in a state opener against Tulpehocken.</p><p>KELSEY REZNICK</p><p>Wyoming Seminary</p><p>Junior, midfielder</p><p>A valuable two-way player, Reznick was the engine that made Wyoming Seminary go to a WVC Division 1 title, a District 2 Class A championship and all the way to the PIAA Class A championship game. She finished with 17 goals and tied for the team lead with 18 assists to finish with 52 points. Her shutout defense on 50-goal scorer Sophia Gladieux helped Sem get past Oley Valley in the state semifinals. And her diving overtime goal sparked a District 2 title victory over Lake-Lehman, after she scored the only goal in overtime to wrap up the Division 1 regular season title against Crestwood.</p><p>KARALINE STELMA</p><p>Wyoming Valley West</p><p>Junior, forward</p><p>Stelma finished with 42 points and 17 goals for the Spartans, but saved some of the biggest moments of her season for the playoffs. She converted the first goal of the District 2 title game in a 2-0 victory over Crestwood to lead Valley West to its second straight district championship, after exploding for two goals and two assists in the district semifinals. Stelma assisted on the go-ahead goal and scored the clincher in a 3-1 PIAA quarterfinal victory over Selinsgrove, and had Valley West&#8217;s lone goal &#8212; the only one Villa Maria Academy surrendered in the state tourney, in the PIAA championship game.</p><p>COACH OF THE YEAR</p><p>JEAN LIPSKI</p><p>Lake-Lehman</p><p>Lipski did some of the finest work in her illustrious career with a Black Knights team that was severely weakened by graduation after last season&#8217;s District 2 Class A title and run to the state semifinals. Yet, Lipski kept the Black Knights flying high, as they lost just two games &#8212; to eventual District 2 champions Wyoming Seminary and Wyoming Valley West &#8212; during the regular season. By making adjustments and personnel changes, Lipski guided the Black Knights to a fourth consecutive District 2 championship game and to a fourth straight PIAA playoff tournament appearance.
