<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A 13-year-old girl was dragged for more than a half mile under a Ford pickup until the driver stopped when he heard the girl&#8217;s screams, according to search warrants obtained Friday.</p><p>Hayleigh Zim, of Wilkes-Barre, suffered severe injuries when she was struck by a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, driven by Matthew McCormack, in the area of Conyngham Avenue and Wilkes-Barre Boulevard on Dec. 23, court records state.</p><p>McCormack told authorities he believed he hit a pothole when he turned onto the boulevard. He stopped on the on-ramp to the North Cross Valley Expressway when he heard the girl&#8217;s screams from under his truck, according to authorities.</p><p>When McCormack got out, he saw Zim behind his vehicle and immediately called 911. McCormack had traveled about six-tenths of a mile from where he thought the pothole was, records show.</p><p>Zim suffered head and facial injuries, including a broken nose, a fractured left arm, exposed elbow bones, a broken right ankle, possible liver damage and road rash covering nearly 40 percent of her body, according to a gofundme account set up to help offset medical costs.</p><p>Zim was initially taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, then transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. The gofundme account indicates Zim has also been treated at Children&#8217;s Hospital of Philadelphia and has undergone several surgeries.</p><p>No charges have been filed.</p><p>Police obtained search warrants for Zim&#8217;s medical records and to inspect McCormack&#8217;s vehicle to determine if there were any mechanical defects or safety violations.</p><p>Efforts to reach Zim&#8217;s mother, Heather Zim Howell, and McCormack were not successful Friday.</p><style>
