Will Disney’s streaming be the top mouse??

<p>It really does go by so fast.</p><p>One minute you&#8217;re moving into your freshman dorm, the next minute you&#8217;re on the job market. And, if you&#8217;re anything like me, somewhere in the middle, you changed your mind about your field of study about 2,000 times.</p><p>That&#8217;s why internships are so important.</p><p>For me, my summer internship at the Times Leader solidified that I made the right decision to finally focus on multimedia journalism. But many students are not so lucky.</p><p>It worked out for me, but I really should have done an internship earlier &#8212; and then maybe another one.</p><p>Besides the fact that internships are extremely important for setting your resume apart from others, in many cases, there is a monstrous difference between the classroom and the field, and there are parts of the latter that just don&#8217;t end up in the theoretical curriculum.</p><p>I know that for me, when I chose biology as my first major and wanted to be a neurobiologist, I thought that graduation was a mythical thing, kind of like unicorns or the Loch Ness Monster.</p><p>The year 2018 did not seem real to me. This year was absolutely never going to happen, and even if it did happen, it was eons away. Surely by that time I would get over my aversion to examining brains with my own hands and eyes.</p><p>Guess what? I probably was not going to, because rather than depending on my own will power, I was hoping that time alone would solve that for me &#8212; all of that time, leading up to that graduation date that seemed entirely imaginary.</p><p>I never would have really known just how much I didn&#8217;t want to do that until I had to do it multiple times. Thankfully, I didn&#8217;t get that far before I ended up in the humanities, where there are very few instances (at least that I&#8217;ve seen) of having to touch brains.</p><p>My point is this: It is important to try things out before it&#8217;s too late. Things are complex, and a lot more than just knowledge goes into any job you take after college.</p><p>Hardly anything is more important than participating in co-curriculars and internships &#8212; and I would put it on par with paying attention in classes and getting decent grades.</p><style>
