Case schedule set in fatal Laflin arson

<p>HAZLETON &#8212; Two men exiting a basement door while allegedly burglarizing a vacant hospital walked right into waiting police officers Thursday morning.</p><p>Police arrested Carl Cragle, 27, of Nescopeck, and Anthony Leming, 48, of Berwick, inside the former St. Joseph&#8217;s Hospital on North Church Street at about 7 a.m.</p><p>Cragle and Leming were allegedly carrying a gas-powered saw, a crowbar and other tools when they were arrested.</p><p>According to a news release:</p><p>Police responded to the vacant hospital building when the property manager reported there were burglars inside.</p><p>Police located a Pontiac Aztec parked inside a garage and fresh footprints in a courtyard leading to a basement door.</p><p>Officers initially went inside but backed out and waited.</p><p>After hearing banging, Cragle and Leming exited in front of waiting officers.</p><p>Police checked the building, noticing a basement room was filled with exhaust fumes and freshly cut copper pipe removed from a large water tank.</p><p>Cragle and Leming were arraigned by District Judge Rick Cronauer in Wilkes-Barre on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief, criminal attempt to commit theft, criminal trespass and possessing instruments of crime. Cragle was further charged with possession of a controlled substance, and Leming was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.</p><p>Cragle and Leming were jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail each.</p><style>
