TUNKHANNOCK &#8212; Tunkhannock and Dallas waited as long as possible to decide the Wyoming Valley Conference boys swimming championship.Both teams were unbeaten into the final meet of the season, contested a week after originally scheduled.At that point, why not push it all the way to the limit?The conference championship came all the way down to the final race and &#8212; for Tunkhannock &#8212; the final two legs of the closing 400-yard relay Wednesday before Davis Tidball surged into the lead and Alex Bushre extended it to lift the Tigers to a 92-91 victory.Dallas had a one-point lead going into the final race, but with the relay winner guaranteed to gain at least two points on its opponent, both teams knew it was winner-take-all.&#8220;We were all really nervous because we knew we had to come in first for that relay in order to win the entire conference,&#8221; Bushre said. &#8220;It was really nerve-wracking. There was a lot of pressure on us.&#8220;We prayed for the best and the best happened.&#8221;Dylan Mislevy and Ben Tidball kept the Tigers close enough for Davis Tidball and Alex Bushre to produce a comfortable win in 3:23.31.&#8220;Right before the blocks, I saw they had a little bit of a lead on us,&#8221; Davis Tidball said. &#8220;I was just trying to get as mentally pumped up as I can. I was slapping my chest, trying to get my heart rate elevated and get in the zone.&#8220;As soon I jumped in, I was like, &#8216;we&#8217;ve got this. I know I can get a lead and I know Bushre can take it home.&#8221;Davis Tidball completed his 100 meters in 50.48 seconds, his fastest split ever, and Bushre brought it home in 48.60.Tunkhannock won eight of 12 events, but Dallas had the depth to gain ground with second, third-, and fourth-place points in the individual events.&#8220;Watching them all season, I thought they might be too deep for us to pull out a win,&#8221; Tunkhannock coach Tim Mislevy said after his team joined the 1996-97 Tigers as the only in school history to complete an unbeaten regular season. &#8220;These guys; I can&#8217;t say enough about the boys.&#8221;The teams were tied, 31-31, after four events.Tunkhannock, led by Sawyer Aitken&#8217;s win, swept three spots uncontested by Dallas in diving to take a 13-point lead.Dallas whittled that lead down over the next six events to move in front when Mikail Krochta and Ryan Spears won the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke and got help from teammates in other places.Krochta also won the 200 individual medley for Dallas earlier in the meet.Bushre and Dylan Mislevy each won two individual events and two relays to lead the Tigers.Ultimately Tunkhannock was able to counter the points that Dallas&#8217; depth gained by sweeping the three relays.Davis Tidball, Ben Tidball and Dyllan Henning were part of two of those wins while Mike Astegher and A.J.
