Hazleton man found not guilty on child sex charges

<p>JENKINS TWP. &#8212; A third-party logistics services contract between Kane Warehousing and Kimberly Clark in the CenterPoint Commerce &amp; Trade Park has not been renewed.</p><p>As a requirement, Kane Warehousing filed a WARN notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor &amp; Industry, listing 89 employees to be laid off &#8212; 9 effective April 20, and 80 effective May 5.</p><p>Alex Stark, senior director of marketing at Kane Is Able, explained that the 89 people who are currently associates of Kane, will &#8220;in all likelihood,&#8221; be picked up by the new third-party contractor chosen by Kimberly Clark.</p><p>&#8220;This is the nature of our business,&#8221; Stark said. &#8220;Kimberly Clark didn&#8217;t renew the contract we had for years. Of course we are disappointed we no longer have that piece of business, but we recently picked up another contract in Allentown.&#8221;</p><p>Stark explained that it is expected that the 89 associates will be picked up by the new provider selected by Kimberly Clark. He said it is common that the new provider would hire the people already there. He said some may be hired by Kane at another facility.</p><p>&#8220;When we (by law) made the announcement, several associates in that operation confirmed that they &#8216;bleed Kane green&#8217; and would want to stay with us no matter what,&#8221; Stark said. &#8220;They believe in the culture of Kane Is Able.&#8221;</p><p>Stark said many of the associates scheduled for layoff in the WARN notices will move to the new vendor, but many will be re-purposed in Kane&#8217;s Scranton campus, and others will work in Kane&#8217;s Allentown operations.</p><p>&#8220;The business will go on, just without Kane as the logistics provider,&#8221; Stark said. &#8220;The associates will leave one day working for Kane and come back the next day as an associate of the new provider.&#8221;</p><p>Stark said the WARN notice had to be filed with the state because the number of employees involved is more than 50.</p><p>Stark said Kane Warehousing is a national third-party logistics company that provides warehousing distribution and transportation services for manufacturers and retailers. Headquartered in Scranton, Stark said the company occupies 8 million square feet of warehousing space across the country, including southern California, Utah, Chicago and Atlanta, employing more than 1,000 associates.</p><p>Attempts to reach a spokesperson for Kimberly Clark were unsuccessful.</p><style>
