<p>WILKES-BARRE TWP. &#8212; It was hats off to Dr. Seuss at Barnes &amp; Noble as dozens of children gathered for a story time celebrating the author&#8217;s birthday coming up March 2.</p><p>Frank and Casey Sperlazzo said the activity was the perfect way to spend time on a rainy weekend day.</p><p>Casey Sperlazzo said she especially appreciated the timing of the event.</p><p>&#8220;I work during the week and this is our time to do things like this,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Both of the Sperlazzo children &#8212; Camille, 4, and Mackenzie, 1 &#8212; seemed to enjoy not only listening to the story, but also the hustle and bustle of the bookstore.</p><p>Following two Seuss stories, carefully and colorfully read by the store&#8217;s Natalie Pacileo, paper and crayons were handed out for the coloring of a bow tie and Seuss-style hat.</p><p>Encouraging creativity, Pacileo said, &#8220;We know that in &#8216;The Cat and the Hat&#8217; the hat was red and white. But it&#8217;s your hat. You can color it any color you like.&#8221;</p><p>Casey Sperlazzo was more than happy to help daughter Camille with her art project.</p><p>&#8220;We think coming here really encourages reading,&#8221; said Frank Sperlazzo. &#8220;We read to the girls every night.&#8221;</p><p>Joan Vinsko, Wilkes-Barre, said she has been coming to story-telling events since her boys, now both attorneys, were young.</p><p>Vinsko, a retired teacher, said the events not only provided a great deal of fun, but also inspired a love for reading.</p><p>Accompanying grandchildren Brian, 3, and Victoria, 22 months, Vinsko said Saturday was an opportunity to re-live the joys of parenting.</p><p>&#8220;Even though their parents are here,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I love to come out to such a wonderful event.&#8221;</p><p>At the end of the day, as the children completed their craft, it didn&#8217;t seem to be about having used the perfect color or coloring inside the lines, but about fun and family.</p><p>&#8220;The kids had fun,&#8221; said Casey Sperlazzo. &#8220;We really enjoyed it.&#8221;</p><p>Theodor Seuss Geisel authored more than 60 children&#8217;s books under the pen name Dr. Seuss. He died in 1991 at age 87.</p><style>
