<p>LUZERNE &#8212; Former Penn State star and NFL veteran Leo Wisniewski will hold a &#8220;Huddle at the Hope Center&#8221; event this weekend as part of his Locking Arms Men ministry.</p><p>Wisniewski, executive director of Locking Arms Men, played defensive tackle and was co-captain in his senior season in 1981 when the Nittany Lions finished No. 3 nationally. He was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player at the 1982 Fiesta Bowl and at the Hula Bowl.</p><p>Wisniewski&#8217;s son, Stefen, also made the NFL. In fact, he was the starting guard on the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.</p><p>The elder Wisniewski will be at the Hope Center at 3 p.m. Sunday and again at 7:30 a.m. Monday. Both events are free and open to the public. Call Ron Hillard, director of the Hope Center, at 570-763-5217 for more information.</p><p>The mission of Locking Arms Men, a men&#8217;s ministry in the Pittsburgh area, is to build &#8220;authentic men who love God, love one another, and love their neighbor.&#8221; Wisniewski said he has been in full-time Christian work for most of the last three decades since he retired from the NFL.</p><p>Ron Hillard, director of the Hope Center, and Dave Roberts, of Kingston, worked to bring the Locking Arms Men group to the area. Hillard and Roberts organized a men&#8217;s Bible study group at the Hope Center that meets every Monday at 8 a.m.</p><p>&#8220;Our dream for the Hope Center has always been to provide health care for people and now we want to help people&#8217;s welfare,&#8221; Hillard said. &#8220;We have programs for seniors, veterans, men&#8217;s groups, and women&#8217;s groups. We want to offer a well-rounded outreach as a community center with programs for the mind, body and spirit.&#8221;</p><p>Hillard said the Hope Center is a free medical clinic dedicated to the uninsured and under-insured which has been serving the community for more than 14 years. The clinic offers free medical care, dental hygiene, prescription assistance, and pastoral care.</p><p>Roberts, a pharmaceutical sales representative, recently moved back to his hometown of Kingston after living in the Pittsburgh area for many years. He is a member of the Locking Arms Men organization.</p><p>&#8220;We wanted to bring this national program here to the area,&#8221; Roberts said. &#8220;Our goal is to duplicate here what is being done around the country.&#8221;</p><p>Leo Wisniewski was taken 28th overall in the 1982 NFL Draft. He played several years as a starter at nose guard. He was named to the 1982 NFL All-Rookie team. He finished with the Indianapolis Colts in 1985. Knee injuries forced an early retirement.</p><p>A Locking Arms Men brochure says the organization&#8217;s purpose is for men to strengthen one another through spiritual formation, true Christian community and sacrificial service to others.</p><p>The brochure states &#8220;men today are under great pressure to achieve a higher standard of living for their families and to provide for a costly retirement, all while living in competition with other men.&#8221;</p><p>Locking Arms Men contends this stress &#8220;erodes family life, leads to loneliness, addictions of all kinds, and crushes the masculine soul.&#8221; The brochure adds: &#8220;Self-reliance has led us to despair. We are suffering from a crisis of manhood.&#8221;</p><p>The Hope Center is at 205 Main St. in Luzerne.</p><style>
