Plans debated for forest along the Susquehanna River

<p>For the second day in a row, D.J. Erickson and Kaleb Konigus stood out for the Wyoming Valley Conference in the Class 2A Northeast Regional Tournament.</p><p>Erickson, a Hanover Area junior, and Konigus, a Lake-Lehman senior, were the lone survivors from the WVC vs. District 4 opponents, as they advanced to the PIAA Championships at Giant Center on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.</p><p>Erickson placed second in the tournament, while Konigus advanced to Hershey by finishing fourth.</p><p>Both wrestlers were in Saturday morning&#8217;s semifinals. Erickson, a 145-pounder, won his semi against Benton&#8217;s Colton Babcock 5-3 to advance to the state bracket for the second straight season. In the regional final against Dylan Bennett from Montoursville, Erickson fell 7-6 when Bennett was awarded two for a reversal at the buzzer.</p><p>Konigus, a 285-pounder, dropped his semifinal to Justin Kriner from North Penn-Liberty 2-1, but he bounced back to win his consolation bout against Valley View&#8217;s John Shnipes 3-1 to advance to the PIAA Championships for the first time. Konigus then lost via medical forfeit in the third-place bout.</p><p>The two WVC standouts will be joined at states by District 2 mates Brandon Judge (126) from Valley View, Lackawanna Trail&#8217;s Owen Hivner (170), Scranton Prep&#8217;s Ivan Balavage (195), and Western Wayne&#8217;s Cole Fuller (220) and Braden McIntosh (152).</p><p>Hivner was the lone champion for the district, while Judge and Fuller took second. Balavage, an Avoca resident, lost his semifinal bout on Saturday morning before bouncing back to take third. McIntosh finished in fourth.</p><p>Meyer&#8217; Jason Carver (106), Lake-Lehman&#8217;s Hunter Burke (138) and Wyoming Area&#8217;s Justin Joseph (182) all placed fifth and could get a berth to states if anyone who finished ahead of them can&#8217;t go. Berwick&#8217;s Nick Yule ended the tournament in sixth at 113 as did Lehman&#8217;s Bob Long at 126.</p><style>
