Man waives hearing on DUI, child endangerment chargesWILKES-BARRE &#8212; A man from Wilkes-Barre accused of drunken driving in a crash with a toddler in his car waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Luzerne County Central Court.Matthew Fick, 37, of Blackman Street, will now face two counts of DUI and a single count of endangerment in county court.Wilkes-Barre police alleged Fick fled the scene carrying a 1-year-old boy after he mounted a curb and crashed into two vehicles for sale at Nation Auto Sales at South Main and Hanover streets on Jan. 13.A blood test revealed Fick&#8217;s alcohol level was .277 percent, according to a criminal complaint. The legal driving limit is .08.Wilkes-Barre man finedfor lying to purchase firearmWILKES-BARRE &#8212; Carl E. Deininger, 48, of South Sherman Street, Wilkes-Barre, pleaded guilty Tuesday to providing false information on an application to purchase a firearm at a dealer in Pittston in 2014.Deininger indicated on an application he did not have a conviction or was ever sentenced to more than one year in prison, authorities say. But police say Deininger had been convicted and sentenced for a crime that prevents him from purchasing a firearm.Deininger completed the firearms application at Advance Arms on South Main Street, Pittston, on Feb. 14, 2014.
