<p>The Nescopeck Township Volunteer Fire Co. was the place to be Saturday for those looking for a great deal away from the typical big-box store.</p><p>Shoppers also got the chance to help local rescuers simply by purchasing something to fill their belly or to decorate their house.</p><p>Firefighters hosted their inaugural Spring Bazaar, featuring more than 20 local vendors, homemade foods and desserts, and a chance to try your luck at 40 different prizes through a Chinese auction.</p><p>Volunteer and event organizer Donna Lynn said she came up with the idea as the fire company was trying to devise more fundraisers. She started working on putting the bazaar together in August, scouring the area for vendors and businesses to participate.</p><p>&#8220;They said they wanted to do a fundraiser to make more money, and I just came up with the idea and asked them if they ever did any kind of bazaar or craft show,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Her hard work appeared to be paying off, as a constant stream of customers continued walking through the door Saturday.</p><p>From jewelry and chocolate to candles and home decor, the hall was filled with patrons overlooking various goods for sale. Walking away from a candle and wax melts stand with a bag of items, Berwick resident Paula Cagigas said she heard about the event from Lynn and decided to give it a chance.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m always looking for food and baked goods,&#8221; she said with a chuckle, adding that she was mostly interested in seeing local handmade crafts.</p><p>If local crafters were what Cagigas wanted, Drums resident Linda Siegfried surely did not disappoint. The full-time nurse created Fine Line Laser Engraving about four years ago, offering a wide variety of engraved wooden items for sale. From signs to tags and even nightlights, Siegfried displayed a large collection at her space.</p><p>She said the event seemed to have attracted a solid customer base for its first time. She added &#8212; happily &#8212; that her ornaments and lights were drawing the most attention.</p><p>As for what will come of the bazaar in the future, Siegfried said it&#8217;s hard to tell, but she would certainly return.</p><p>&#8220;I always try more than one year,&#8221; she said with a smile.</p><style>
