Beyond the Byline: Don’t inflate our hopes

Wolf administration honors all who served and sacrificed in Vietnam War

<p>Easter egg hunts throughout the area Saturday brought families together for a bit of fun and tradition-building &#8212; and, of course, for candy that so many youngsters crave.</p><p>The Church Street Park in Kingston filled with about 100 children early in the morning, happy to begin their hunt for the colorful orbs at an organizer&#8217;s prompt of &#8220;ready, set, go.&#8221;</p><p>Joe and Tricia Sack were in from Iowa visiting family with their children, Cooper, 2, and Lila Rose, 3 months, and said they couldn&#8217;t have been happier to spend time with family at such an event.</p><p>&#8220;At first, he wasn&#8217;t really sure about the whole thing,&#8221; said Joe Sack of his son, Cooper. &#8220;But once he saw the eggs, he got really excited.&#8221;</p><p>Lauren Speck, a member of the Kingston Kiwanis who sponsored the egg hunt, said it&#8217;s consistent with the organization&#8217;s commitment to children and the community.</p><p>&#8220;Over 12 years, it&#8217;s continued to be really popular,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Prizes ranged from candy to small toys to entire Easter baskets. Every child also got a candy bag.</p><p>Mike and Erica DeAngelo, Hanover Township, and their children, Bella, 1, and Luca, 3, were enjoying the good weather and a chance to spend some time outside.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a nice way to fill the morning,&#8221; said Eric DeAngelo.</p><p>Luca was enjoying a water gun he had won with his dad.</p><p>And although Bella was only 1, she thoroughly enjoyed the day, garnering two eggs: one bright orange and one green.</p><p>&#8220;We had a small Easter egg hunt at my parents&#8217; house,&#8221; said Erica DeAngelo, smiling. &#8220;So, she had some practice.&#8221;</p><p><strong>&#8216;Get to know our neighbors&#8217;</strong></p><p>In Wilkes-Barre, Restored church opened its doors to families with not only an egg hunt, but activities that filled several hours.</p><p>Gareth Henderson, the church&#8217;s outreach director, said Restored was happy to welcome not only those who attend regularly, but strangers, too.</p><p>&#8220;We like to get to know our neighbors, and let them know we&#8217;re here,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Silas Stania, 6, was having a great time running through the church&#8217;s common area with his friends.</p><p>When asked how many eggs he got, he replied, &#8220;two.&#8221;</p><p>His father, Matt Stania, clarified, &#8220;That&#8217;s two baskets full.&#8221;</p><p>Silas had also enjoyed the craft portion of the event, quick to point out two colorful eggs, still wet with paint.</p><p>&#8220;That&#8217;s a face,&#8221; he said, smiling and pointing to one of the eggs.</p><p>Lila Grace Hunter, 7, Swoyersville, was also quick to explain her egg, with several letters of the alphabet on it.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s for all the names of the people in my family,&#8221; said Lila.</p><p>Patty Pelton, a volunteer, said it was a fun day for everyone.</p><p>&#8220;It was a nice way to spend part of the holiday,&#8221; she said.</p><style>
