<p>KINGSTON &#8212; Orthopaedic Associates of Wyoming Valley surgeons Dr. Michael Raklewicz, Dr. William PH Charlton and Dr. James Mattucci have been providing high-quality, comprehensive orthopedic care to local communities for more than 25 years. These forward-thinking surgeons &#8211; now offer the latest in knee treatment options for patients with arthritis and knee-pain related issues.</p><p>The practice, located in the Kingston area, is now offering partial and total knee replacements utilizing new technology called the NAVIO Surgical System.</p><p>&#8220;The NAVIO system provides us with robotic assistance for precise implant placement,&#8221; says Dr. Michael Raklewicz.</p><p>&#8220;Unlike other robotics-assisted platforms, the NAVIO system does not require a pre-operative CT-scan.&#8221; Instead, the surgeon collects patient-specific data during the procedure to build a 3D model of the patient&#8217;s knee. &#8220;A CT-Scan can be equivalent to over 48 chest x-rays &#8212; this new technology protects our patients from dangerous radiation exposure during the pre-op process,&#8221; says Dr. William PH Charlton.</p><p>&#8220;This technology also provides patients with a partial knee replacement option and early intervention if only a portion of the patient&#8217;s knee is arthritic&#8221;, says Dr. James Mattucci. &#8220;This new technology highlights how our entire practice is focused on providing safe and innovative treatment options to our patients early on in the treatment process.&#8221;</p><p>The NAVIO Surgical System provides surgeons with seamlessly integrated partial and total knee replacement workflow. Unlike other robotics-assisted platforms, the NAVIO system builds a 3D model of the patient&#8217;s knee. This information is utilized by the surgeon to perform the procedure, utilizing the NAVIO robotic-assisted intra-operative hand-held tool (handpiece) to position NAVIO-specific cut guides exactly as intended, and based on the patient&#8217;s specific anatomical data as previously collected.
