<p>For the second month in a row the Joint Operating Committee that runs the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center declined to approve two of three agenda items related to the practical nursing program.</p><p>Following the recommendation of Committee Member John Quinn, who heads the subcommittee overseeing the program, the board voted overwhelmingly to reject a request to pay a $5,000 annual stipend to Cheryl Woloski for taking on additional responsibilities.</p><p>Also at Quinn&#8217;s recommendation, the committee voted down a request to pay $490 to renew Woloski&#8217;s membership in the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Woloski is the program&#8217;s administrative manager.</p><p>Last month Practical Nursing Director Mary Beth Pacuska said after a similar motion was tabled that Woloski has has been doing extra work related to the program budget. She was not present at Monday&#8217;s meeting.</p><p>The committee &#8212; comprised of representatives from the school boards of five districts that send students to the center &#8212; did approve a third agenda item, granting Patty Simyan and Patricia DeiTos to attend a Neurology for the Non-Neurologist conference May 4 in Hershey at a cost of $125 per person plus mileage.</p><p>Last month the committee had initially tabled three requests made by the nursing program, including the stipend for Woloski. The board reversed itself on one item and hired two clinical instructors after Pacuska warned students who had already paid for their education would, by law, be unable to get their practical nursing degrees without those hires.</p><p>No one on the committee commented after Monday&#8217;s vote. Last month Quinn had said during the meeting that he had asked for information regarding the nursing program and had not received it, though he didn&#8217;t elaborate.</p><p>The committee moved the last day of school for students to June 13. It also approved the purchase of books for several programs, at a cost of $2,343 for culinary arts and child care programs, $1,556 health assistant program, $1505 for the plumbing program, $1,182 for carpentry and construction books, and $1,982 for residential construction books.</p><style>
