Berwick man arrested after police chase

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; City police arrested Nayaka L. Ross, 28, on charges she forced her way inside a Blackman Street residence and assaulted her ex-girlfriend with a broken bottle on Friday.</p><p>According to the criminal complaint:</p><p>Police encountered four people fighting in the driveway of 125 Blackman St. at about 4:45 p.m. Friday.</p><p>Nikyya Kornegay allegedly told police she was inside her residence with her girlfriend, Sherma Hodges, when Denecio Herbert entered talking to Ross on a cell phone. Herbert allegedly slapped Kornegay in the face and pulled her hair.</p><p>Kornegay claimed she heard smashing glass shortly before Ross allegedly entered the house holding a broken bottle. Kornegay identified Ross as her ex-girlfriend, the complaint says.</p><p>Police said Kornegay alleged Ross swung the broken bottle and grabbed a knife she also swung at her.</p><p>Kornegay suffered a hand injury when she was struck by the broken bottle, police said.</p><p>Police said they recovered a knife that had blood on it and marijuana inside a Saturn parked on a sidewalk near the residence.</p><p>Kornegay was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, police said.</p><p>Ross was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arraigned by District Judge James Haggerty in Kingston and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.</p><style>
