Woman charged with stealing items from Hanover Township store

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A state inmate was arraigned Tuesday on charges he threw urine at a correctional officer and falsely accused guards of sexually assaulting him.</p><p>State police at Shickshinny said Adam Joseph Brown, 26, when housed at the Retreat state prison in Newport Township, falsely accused officers of raping him in a stairwell March 20 and again March 31. Brown is also accused in a separate incident for allegedly throwing urine March 31.</p><p>Online court records from Erie County say Brown was convicted after a jury trial in July 2014 of two counts of criminal attempt to commit homicide and other charges.</p><p>According to erienewsnow.com, Brown was convicted of slashing the throats of an 81-year-old woman and her 72-year-old husband during a home invasion.</p><p>He was sentenced to 60 to 120 years in state prison.</p><p>According to criminal complaints on the latest charges:</p><p>Brown was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township when he claimed he was raped by one or two correctional officers. He claimed the assault lasted a few seconds to a minute in a stairwell.</p><p>State police reviewed surveillance video that showed Brown in a stairwell for 11 seconds while being escorted by two correctional officers.</p><p>Brown refused to be interviewed by the trooper.</p><p>State police investigated a second claim by Brown alleging he was raped by two correctional officers while being escorted from his cell to the prison yard March 31.</p><p>Surveillance video showed there was not enough time for Brown&#8217;s allegations to be true as the escort to the prison yard was a short trip.</p><p>On the same day, a correctional officer was struck with urine thrown by Brown when he was told to remove an obstacle blocking a window in his cell.</p><p>Brown, currently housed at SCI-Smithfield in Huntingdon County, was arraigned via video by District Judge Joseph Spagnuolo Jr. in Luzerne County Central Court on separate counts of false reports and a single count of aggravated harassment by a prisoner. Bail on the three separate complaints was set at $35,000.</p><style>
