MOOSIC &#8212; Chance Adams came into Wednesday&#8217;s start against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs with three objectives.He wanted to use the inner part of the plate to his advantage, mix his pitches well and throw a heavy dose of competitive sliders. Check, check and check.Adams did a good job of mixing his slider and curveball with an effective fastball that continuously kept the IronPigs (20-16) off balance as he picked up his first win of the season. Adams pitched seven innings of shutout baseball as the RailRiders (18-19) took down Lehigh Valley, 3-1.&#8220;It&#8217;s a good team win. We all did well today and it just feels good to almost be on a winning streak here,&#8221; Adams said. &#8220;Slider, curveball, they were both good today. Changeup was alright and fastball was in. I commanded pretty well. I felt good.&#8221;Adams faced just two batters past the minimum during his seven-inning outing, pitched his way into trouble once and struck out 10 batters for just the fourth time in his career and for the first time since May 31, 2017.After walking Logan Moore to lead off the third inning and allowing Alex Amarista&#8217;s single to right in the next at-bat, Adams got Dean Anna to ground into a double play. Danny Ortiz hit a comebacker to Adams, which the right-hander fielded cleanly and was able to throw over to Adam Lind for the final out in the inning.Anna&#8217;s double play started a run of 15 straight outs by the 23-year-old.&#8220;I was going out there trying to do my job. It wasn&#8217;t just me,&#8221; Adams said &#8220;Those (15) straight, I&#8217;m pretty sure Shane (Robinson) made an amazing play in center. (Erik) Kratz is calling a good game. I have good defense behind me. I&#8217;m just trying to go out there and do my part. My team was just picking me up and helping me out as well.&#8221;Raynel Espinal took over for Adams in the eighth, but quickly got into trouble.Joey Meneses led off the frame with a solo shot to right. The right-handed reliever hit Logan Moore to bring the game-tying run up to the plate in Amarista. The IronPigs second baseman hit a ground ball to RailRiders shortstop Tyler Wade, who went to second with the throw, which was high and allowed both runners to reach safely.Oliver Perez took over for Espinal and made matters worse when he hit Anna with his first pitch he threw to load the bases before he skirted disaster when he got Ortiz to ground into an inning-ending double play.&#8220;I think it&#8217;s great for him,&#8221; RailRiders manager Bobby Mitchell said of Perez. &#8220;We need him to be able to come in and do exactly what he did &#8212; get out lefties. He&#8217;s getting better every time we put him out there.&#8221;Ryan McBroom came up with a critical hit for the second game in a row.After his RBI double put the RailRiders within one run during Tuesday&#8217;s walk-off win, the right fielder gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 2-0 advantage with his two-run, second-inning home run off the YES Network billboard in left field on Wednesday.Mike Ford&#8217;s fourth-inning solo shot put the RailRiders away for good.&#8220;That ball was crushed, the one he hit to left,&#8221; Mitchell said of McBroom&#8217;s home run. &#8220;I think he&#8217;s really starting to swing the bat. He&#8217;s doing a lot of work, offensively. And actually, he&#8217;s doing well defensively now. He&#8217;s getting more accustomed to the outfield.&#8221;Notes Mitchell expects 3B Brandon Drury to report to the RailRiders at some point on Thursday. However, he wasn&#8217;t sure if it&#8217;ll be before the RailRiders&#8217; 10:35 a.m. series finale against Lehigh Valley. Mitchell said Drury has an &#8220;appointment or something&#8221; on Thursday. &#8230; INF Thairo Estrada &#8220;is coming along&#8221; as he recovers from his wrist injury.
