Code requires Pa. buildings withstand 90 mph winds

<p>KINGSTON &#8212; When you walk into a library, you expect to see people reading a book, not eating doughnuts or doing a craft.</p><p>The Hoyt Library on Saturday morning mixed things up a bit with an event called &#8220;Donuts for Dad!&#8221;</p><p>Children ages 15 months to 6 years old got the chance to bond with their father or father-figure and enjoy a story, create a craft or two, and enjoy a doughnut.</p><p>The event was started by Hoyt librarian aide Katie Brown.</p><p>&#8220;I feel everyone does a lot for moms on Mother&#8217;s Day,&#8221; said Brown. &#8220;It&#8217;s not a bad thing, I just feel dads don&#8217;t get enough recognition.&#8221;</p><p>Brown did not shy away to speak about how crucial a child&#8217;s interaction is with their father.</p><p>&#8220;Statistics have shown that parent-child interaction is an important component of a child&#8217;s cognitive and social development,&#8221; Brown said. &#8220;That&#8217;s why Donuts for Dad! is geared towards fathers or father-figures in a child&#8217;s life.&#8221;</p><p>Jayme Galdieri and his 4-year-old daughter, Gianna, made the trip to the Hoyt Library from West Pittston.</p><p>&#8220;I saw the event posted on Facebook,&#8221; Jayme Galdieri said. &#8220;Gianna enjoys going to the library and doing crafts, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to spend time with her.&#8221;</p><p>Children first heard a story, read out loud by Brown. She followed the story up with two crafts for the children to make.</p><p>The first craft was a papier-mache fish, while the second craft was a photo of a grill. The children had to dip their hand in orange paint and put their handprint over the grill to make it appear that flames were rising out.</p><p>After washing their hands, the children were finally able to have a doughnut, courtesy of Dunkin&#8217; Donuts.</p><p>Gianna Galdieri sat down with a rainbow sprinkle doughnut and said her favorite part of the day was spending time with her dad and making the fish craft.</p><p><strong>Hoyt helps damaged store</strong></p><p>On a side note, Hoyt Library executive director Melissa Werner contacted the Barnes &amp; Noble damaged by Wednesday&#8217;s tornado in Wilkes-Barre Township.</p><p>The library allowed Barnes &amp; Noble to hold its scheduled Father&#8217;s Day reading event in one of the library&#8217;s conference rooms.</p><p>Per the Wilkes-Barre Township Barnes &amp; Noble Facebook page, &#8220;The community response and offers of assistance have been coming in droves since Wednesday night, and it&#8217;s nothing short of amazing that we have friends like the Hoyt Library!&#8221;</p><style>
