Some fear changes to state laws as US weighs pot medicine

<p>HANOVER TWP. &#8212; An assistant girls softball coach charged last month with having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl waived his right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Joseph Halesey on Tuesday.</p><p>State police at Wyoming charged Charles Steven Kearney, 53, of Capouse Avenue, Scranton, after investigating claims by a teen girl. She alleged that she had a sexual relationship with the suspect for nearly a year.</p><p>The investigation began in March when the girl&#8217;s father questioned his daughter about how much time she had been spending with Kearney. The father claimed he discovered disturbing text messages on his daughter&#8217;s phone.</p><p>The girl allegedly told her father she was having a consensual relationship with Kearney that began last summer.</p><p>Kearney was charged May 21 with statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, corruption of minors and indecent assault. He will now face the charges in Luzerne County Court.</p><p>Kearney, an assistant coach with the Lackawanna Lightning softball club, a girls travel team, remains free on $25,000 unsecured bail.</p><style>
