<p>Arguably the Wyoming Valley Conference&#8217;s top football player is headed to the Big Ten.</p><p>Williamsport star running back Treyson Potts announced Wednesday that he had given a verbal commitment to Minnesota following an official visit to Minneapolis.</p><p>&#8220;I would like to start by thanking my family for making endless sacrifices and giving me plenty of support to pursue my dreams,&#8221; Potts wrote on Twitter. &#8220;I&#8217;d like to thank my coaches and trainer that have helped me develop into the person and athlete I am today. Finally, thank you to my teammates and friends that have supported me and stayed by my side.</p><p>&#8220;With that being said, I have a phenomenal opportunity to be a part of something great by continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Minnesota.&#8221;</p><p>A three-star prospect rated as the No. 26 player in Pennsylvania for the 2019 recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite rankings, Potts has a chance to greatly raise his profile this fall.</p><p>Already a major impact player for the Millionaires as a sophomore in 2016, Potts missed his entire junior season with a partial tear of the ACL in his right knee.</p><p>While that setback had an effect on his recruitment, Potts had still shown enough to earn scholarship offers from Power Five programs like Virginia, Syracuse and Rutgers in addition to UConn, Temple and multiple Ivy League schools.</p><p>And for good reason.</p><p>The last time Potts was on the field, he earned all-state honors after finishing with over 2,000 yards rushing, including the postseason to lead the entire WVC.</p><p>In the regular season, he ran for 27 touchdowns while also contributing on defense (three interceptions) and special teams as a return man.</p><p>Listed at 5-foot-10, 182 pounds, Potts is rated as the No. 13 all-purpose back in the country thanks to that versatility.</p><p>The only senior running backs ranked ahead of him in the state are Conwell Egan&#8217;s Patrick Garwo and Coatesville&#8217;s Aaron Young.</p><p>Now the Golden Gophers will stand to benefit from Potts&#8217; abilities. With a relatively new stadium to play in and a dynamic recruiter in second-year head coach P.J. Fleck, Minnesota will be hoping to challenge Wisconsin for the Big Ten West title when Potts arrives for the 2019 season.</p><p>Potts will be able to make it official and sign a letter of intent with the Gophers as early as December.</p><p>Before then, his return to action will come when Williamsport opens the season on Aug. 24 against Central Mountain.</p><p>The WVC schedule will bring Potts to Luzerne County for games at Hazleton Area (Sept. 14), Crestwood (Sept. 21), Pittston Area (Oct. 5) and Wyoming Valley West (Oct. 26).</p><style>
