Homeless man to spend up to 40 years behind bars in slaying

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A woman being sought by city police for nearly a month on charges she assaulted and robbed a 19-year-old over a dispute about money owed for makeup was arraigned Monday.</p><p>City police detectives alleged Nubia Lopez, 25, last known address as North Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, assaulted Victoria Obitz in an apartment and hallway at the Sherman Hills apartment complex on June 3.</p><p>An arrest warrant was issued for Lopez on June 25, charging her with robbery, simple assault, theft and criminal mischief. She was arraigned by District Judge Richard Cronauer and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.</p><p>According to the criminal complaint:</p><p>Obitz was invited to the apartment by a man she knows as &#8220;Mel,&#8221; whom police identified as Jamel Ryeheem Johnson. When Obitz arrived, she was told Johnson went to a store and asked to wait inside the apartment occupied by Lopez and several other women.</p><p>Obitz recognized Lopez as they purchased makeup from each other.</p><p>Lopez asked Obitz for money and struck Obitz in the face and head, knocking Obitz to the floor. Other people in the apartment jumped in and participated in the assault.</p><p>The fight spilled into a hallway as Obitz tried to escape.</p><p>Lopez took a wallet containing $70 from Obitz and smashed Obitz&#8217;s cell phone on the floor.</p><p>Obitz claimed Lopez asked her where her vehicle was parked as she wanted to &#8220;(Expletive) it up,&#8221; the complaint says.</p><p>Police said Obitz suffered a large laceration above her eye and other facial injuries. She was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.</p><style>
