County judge to state court: Deny appeal by convicted WB Twp. mother

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A woman still serving probation time for a 2010 homicide by motor vehicle will spend at least 28 days at an inpatient program after a recent public drunkenness incident.</p><p>Caitlyn Hermanofski, 30, was sentenced to three to six years in prison followed by four years on probation after pleading guilty in 2012 in the death of Joseph Hauze.</p><p>Prosecutors said she was driving under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs when she struck Hauze&#8217;s motorcycle on Route 309 in Fairview Township in June 2010.</p><p>Hermanofski, who will be in her probationary period until 2023, was cited in May with a summary count of drunkenness.</p><p>She appeared before Luzerne County Judge William H. Amesbury on Wednesday for a revocation hearing.</p><p>Defense attorney Kendra Stobel told Amesbury that Hermanofski has unspecified mental health issues and that she uses alcohol as a means of self-medicating. A representative from the county&#8217;s probation program said it seems she has issues with relapse.</p><p>Amesbury ordered Hermanofksi to be transported to the Columbia County prison, where she will spend 28 to 90 days at an inpatient program. He also ordered Hermanofski undergo evaluation to determine if she has a mental health problem in addition to substance abuse.</p><p>Amesbury also issued a stern warning about possible prison time.</p><p>&#8220;I will not hesitate, should you appear before me again, to max you out,&#8221; he told her. &#8220;And I don&#8217;t mean a treatment program.&#8221;</p><style>
