Possible stabbing attempt in WB followed by police pursuit

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Two new businesses received zoning approval Wednesday to set up shop on Old River Road.</p><p>The Wilkes-Barre Zoning Hearing Board granted NEPA Rec Center a special exception to change an existing nonconforming use for a building at 237 Old River Road. The building will house an indoor bounce place for children and also holding instructional sessions for basketball and wrestling in the space formerly occupied by a fire and water damage restoration business. The building contains three residential units that are occupied.</p><p>Attorney Joe Terrana said the new business will have evening and weekend hours. The owners of the business, John Kivler and Larry Barnes, have a lease pending with the Martz bus company next door to use 56 parking spots, Terrana said. The signing of the lease was dependent upon zoning approval for NEPA Rec Center. The zoning board set a condition that the lease be executed within two weeks.</p><p>The other new business will be a deli and ice cream shop operated by Kristen Parelli Jannuzzi at 285 Old River Road. The board approved her application to change the existing nonconforming use to allow her to move into the space where the Fame Strength gym used to be. It moved to a larger facility in Forty Fort.</p><p>Jannuzzi said she is aiming for an opening date after Labor Day. The hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. &#8220;It&#8217;s takeout only,&#8221; she told the board.</p><p>It also approved the application of WB Jam I LLC to use 247 N. Main St. as student housing near King&#8217;s College. The three-story house has six bedrooms and cannot be occupied by more than six people, according to the variance sought by the owner.</p><style>
