Our view: Strengthening our CTCs a worthy goal

<p>MOOSIC &#8212; The next time Cody Carroll and Josh Rogers are back at PNC Field, they&#8217;ll be in Norfolk Tides uniforms and in the visitor&#8217;s clubhouse.</p><p>The New York Yankees acquired closer Zach Britton from the Baltimore Orioles for Rogers, Carroll and Double-A Trenton right-hander Dillon Tate Tuesday night. Both Rogers and Carroll were assinged to the Tides while Tate will head to Double-A Bowie.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m excited. It&#8217;s an exciting time for me and my family,&#8221; Carroll said.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m excited for the opportunity and obviously really love the Yankees organization and, everything, the chances they&#8217;ve given me,&#8221; Rogers added. &#8220;It&#8217;s just kind of a mixed-emotion feeling. I don&#8217;t know how to react.&#8221;</p><p>Rogers will never make last RailRiders start, which was set to be Wednesday against the Charlotte Knights.</p><p>He would have been the continuation of Tuesday&#8217;s suspended game. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the third.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s exciting, I guess, for a new opportunity if that&#8217;s the case,&#8221; Rogers said after Tuesday&#8217;s game prior to learning the deal had become official. &#8220;Just can&#8217;t say enough good things about the Yankees organization in general, from top to bottom &#8212; all the help, all the staff. The guys here have been great if it is true.&#8221;</p><p>The same sentiment is there for Carroll, too.</p><p>But he has a golden opportunity in front of him. The Orioles will likely need a bullpen arm to replace him and it could be Carroll. Not to mention he&#8217;s fresh off the Triple-A All-Star Game too.</p><p>Oh, and Tuesday was his wife&#8217;s birthday.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been wild,&#8221; Carroll said. &#8220;It&#8217;s funny because it&#8217;s my wife&#8217;s birthday today, too. She says, &#8216;Best birthday ever so far.&#8217; So I&#8217;ll take that. But I&#8217;m just waiting to hear something, really.</p><p>&#8220;Just going to take it the same way I do here: One day at a time. If that day comes (and I make the majors), it comes.&#8221;</p><p>RailRiders southpaw Justus Sheffield is losing a roommate and probably his closest friend in the Yankees organization in Rogers. But he has been there before, being traded to the Yankees two years ago.</p><p>He also knows that like Carroll, Rogers has quite the opportunity in front of him, too. The Orioles don&#8217;t sport a starting pitcher, that has made at least five starts this season, with an ERA under 4.40. Andrew Cashner&#8217;s ERA is 4.40 on the nose.</p><p>Rogers was close to making his debut earlier this season for the Yankees. Now it could come against a division rival.</p><p>&#8220;I told Josh this, &#8216;It&#8217;s sick for him. This is a good thing,&#8217;&#8221; Sheffield said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a really good thing for him. I can just hope the best for him and I know that he&#8217;s going to go over there and do well and I know Cody&#8217;s going to do the same.&#8221;</p><p>At the end of the day, Mitchell understands that Baltimore is not only getting two quality pitching prospects in Carroll and Rogers, but they&#8217;re getting a couple of quality character guys, too.</p><p>&#8220;They&#8217;re great character guys for one &#8212; in a different way,&#8221; Mitchell said. &#8220;Cody&#8217;s kind of quiet, but really confident and really determined in a very quiet way. And then there&#8217;s Josh, who goofs around and has the same feelings. If they leave, we&#8217;ll miss them.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Adams fans six</strong></p><p>Chance Adams would have loved to kept pitching Tuesday night. If it wasn&#8217;t for the rain.</p><p>By the time the game was called, after a two-plus-hour rain delay, Adams had struck out six batters in just three innings, despite allowing a pair of runs. While his velocity isn&#8217;t where it was a times last season, the right-hander touched 94 mph on more than one occasion.</p><p>&#8220;Yeah, I felt good,&#8221; Adams said. &#8220;My velocity still isn&#8217;t close to where it used to be yet, but it&#8217;s getting better.&#8221;</p><p>Tuesday&#8217;s game will be picked up in the bottom of the third, with two outs, Billy McKinney at first base and Mike Ford at the plate, as part of a doubleheader against Charlotte. The suspended game will start at 5:05 p.m., with the nightcap to follow.</p><p>Erik Swanson will take over in the first game with Raynel Espinal to pitch the second.</p><style>
