Wilkes-Barre’s bid for distressed status all but certain

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Luzerne County judge has set a date for a hearing for the Dallas Education Association to argue why the Dallas School District should be held in contempt of court.</p><p>The hearing, scheduled by Judge William H. Amesbury, will be held Friday, Aug. 10, at 3 p.m.</p><p>At the hearing, the teachers&#8217; union will be allowed to argue why the school district should be held in contempt of an order that mandated a schedule of negotiations to settle a three-year contract dispute.</p><p>The district could face sanctions that include paying for counsel fees and other fines and costs.</p><p>Through its attorney, the district previously appealed the court order, arguing it was hard to get the same board members to each negotiation session.</p><p>The district is no longer attending the sessions.</p><p>So far, no opinion has been sent down from the state appellate court in regard to the district&#8217;s appeal.</p><style>
