<p>The Mature Worker Program (Senior Community Service Employment Program), sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne-Wyoming Counties, recently hosted a mini job fair at the Wilkes Barre Boscov&#8217;s Department Store in their atrium. Three local employers spoke to the Mature Worker Program participants about employment opportunities within their companies.</p><p>The Mature Worker Program (SCSEP) is a federally funded training program which serves individuals who are at least 55 years old, residents of Luzerne/Wyoming counties, and who meet federal low-income guidelines. Mature Worker Program (SCSEP) provides temporary community service training opportunities to older Americans to prepare them for jobs in their community. The purpose of the program is to offer a &#8220;stepping stone&#8221; back into the work force.</p><p>Once the individual is enrolled on the program, they will receive on-the-job training with local partnering non-profit organizations or local government offices. The participants train an average of 15-20 hours a week, and are paid a training stipend that is the highest of federal, state or local minimum wage directly by Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). The participants training will be customized to meet the individual needs of the participants and also the needs of the training sites.</p><p>Some typical tasks performed by the Mature Workers include: providing clerical/office support where they can hone their computer skills, typing, general office skills. There is also maintenance training available.
