EXETER &#8212; It didn&#8217;t take long for the Dallas golf team to rebound from last season.The Mountaineers dominated in the annual Tryba Memorial Tournament on Monday at Fox Hill Country Club. Not only did the team break the record for lowest team score with 289 &#8211; besting Holy Redeemer&#8217;s score in its state runner-up year of 2012 &#8212; Dallas also produced the top two scorers in the event.Freshman Logan Paczewski and junior Brett Ostroski each scored 2-under par 69 to tie for the lowest round of the afternoon. Paczewski then defeated his teammate on the first playoff hole to become the first freshman to win the tournament since Brandon Matthews in 2008.&#8220;It&#8217;s a coach&#8217;s dream,&#8221; said Dallas coach Jane Kilduff, who led the team to the tourney&#8217;s team title in 2016 before falling short to Crestwood last year. &#8220;I was kinda fist-pumping a little bit, which is something I don&#8217;t normally do. I had a lot of excitement that I don&#8217;t normally show. But I have to tell you it feels really good to see all their hard work come to fruition.&#8221;Paczewski hit every green and all 18 fairways in his round while sinking four birdies on the day, including a 60-foot shot on No. 15.Still, Paczewski isn&#8217;t a typical freshman, having played in AGA and PGA junior league events. Even with not many practices with the team, Kilduff knew she had to get him in the lineup.&#8220;I&#8217;ve followed him along for many years so I knew his potential to score and his scoring average in all the large tournaments that he&#8217;s played in,&#8221; Kilduff said about her newest star. &#8220;So I knew he was certainly a top scorer for the team. And with that, it was honestly a no-brainer to play him.&#8221;When they both hit the No. 1 hole for the playoff, Paczewski shot par on the par-4 hole to claim the victory. Before the two had to return to the course to decide a winner, they wanted to share the title. But that just doesn&#8217;t happen in golf.&#8220;It&#8217;s a great experience,&#8221; Paczewski said about being in the playoff with a teammate. &#8220;Just to be on this team is just awesome. We had a great run to break the scoring record.&#8221;All four Dallas scorers were in the top 10 with Ethan Zawatski (75) and Cooper Kelley (76) also posting solid scores.&#8220;Their disappointment from last season brought a little grit, hard work and they were not willing to give up,&#8221; Kilduff said. &#8220;So I really hope that continues through this season and propels them to take them to the championships and meet the goals that they&#8217;re hoping to get. We have to start now.&#8221;Jeremy Harper from Crestwood shot one stroke behind the winning score for the second year in a row. Last year, he was behind his teammate Mike Golden. On Monday, Harper bested his score from 2017 with a 1-under par.Holy Redeemer finished a distant second to the Mountaineers with a 309 as Derek Answini and Martin Cryan both posted scores in the top 10 with rounds of 73 and 75.
