<p>The next time left-handed reliever Stephen Tarpley takes the mound, it will be in pinstripes in his big-league debut for the New York Yankees.</p><p>The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders reliever is being called up with the major league rosters expanding, a source told the Times Leader late Friday night.</p><p>YES Network&#8217;s Jack Curry is reporting that right-handed pitcher Luis Cessa and utility man Tyler Wade will also be recalled.</p><p>The 25-year-old hard-throwing reliever has appeared in 17 games for the RailRiders this season, registering a 2-2 record and 2.65 ERA.</p><p>Tarpley also brings an impressive strikeout rate to the bigs. He&#8217;s struck out 38 batters in 34 Triple-A innings this season.</p><p>&#8220;He&#8217;s got a really good sink, left side. I think he has a really good slider,&#8221; RailRiders manager Bobby Mitchell said of Tarpley when the reliever was called up. &#8220;Last year he was working on that kind of stuff and working on his command.&#8221;</p><p>The reliever was recently mentioned as a possible call-up by Yankees general manager Brian Cashman on Aug. 15, when he joined Mike Francesa on WFAN.</p><p>&#8220;Whether it&#8217;s (Chance) Adams, whether it&#8217;s (Justus) Sheffield, whether it&#8217;s Cessa, starting today, those are going to be your biggest starting contributions,&#8221; Cashman said. &#8220;We have some other guys that will be &#8212; whether it&#8217;s Thomas Kahnle &#8212; there&#8217;s a number of different guys pitching down there extremely well that are catching our eye, whether it&#8217;s Stephen Tarpley, who we got in the (Ivan) Nova deal, or Erik Swanson. Just a lot of it is going to come down to roster moves, in terms of being able to slide somebody else on the roster. Sheff&#8217;s not on it currently and Tarpley&#8217;s not on it currently, but these are guys that we&#8217;re taking notice of.&#8221;</p><p>Since coming over to the Yankees organization in August 2016, Tarpley has registered a 1.88 ERA in 115.2 innings.</p><p>Both Cessa and Wade return to the Yankees after multiple stints with the big-league club earlier in the season.</p><p>Cessa last pitched for the RailRiders out of the bullpen on Wednesday, giving up a run on two hits in 1.2 innings to earn a blown save. He has been effiecent as a whole for the RailRiders, however, securing a 3-0 record and 2.73 ERA in six appearances.</p><p>Wade has struggled for much of his time with the RailRiders in 2018, after dominating the International League a season ago. He was batting just .255 with 18 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 27 RBI in 91 games after hitting .310 in 85 Triple-A games a season ago.</p><p>The 23-year-old was out of the RailRiders starting lineup on Friday for what Mitchell described as a mental day.</p><p>&#8220;Just a little bit of a mind rest because he wants to do so well so badly and sometimes the stress just gets to you,&#8221; Mitchell said after the 3-1 win over Pawtucket. &#8220;This was just a thing where he can take a break and get back after it tomorrow.&#8221;</p><style>
