Two-year window for clergy abuse suits OK’d by state House, going to Senate

Hearings delayed for two accused of carjacking wife of ex-police chief

<p>PITTSTON &#8212; Nearly 100 awards were given out by the Times Leader Media Group to winners from various professions and businesses at the Best of Greater Pittston Readers&#8217; Choice Awards at The Red Mill on Tuesday night.</p><p>The two marquee honors were the Person of the Year Award and the Joseph Saporito Lifetime of Service Award.</p><p>Bob Price, 57, of Dupont, traded in his casual attire and ever-present camera (he loves photography) for a suit and a plaque as he was recognized as the Person of the Year.</p><p>Price, who works for Johnson Controls in Allentown, is an extremely active member of the community. He helped plan Dupont&#8217;s centennial celebration in 2017 and is a member of the Dupont Lions Club, Paint Pittston Pink plus contributes to many other organizations and causes.</p><p>&#8220;If there&#8217;s an event, I&#8217;m probably at it,&#8221; Price said laughingly. &#8220;I don&#8217;t help out or get involved for the glory, I do it because I care.&#8221;</p><p>When Price was notified he was receiving the award, he didn&#8217;t have too much time to process it.</p><p>&#8220;When I got the call, I was pretty shocked,&#8221; he recalled. &#8220;I paused for a long second before I said &#8216;yes.&#8217; I&#8217;m just honored and humbled.</p><p>&#8220;I really didn&#8217;t expect this award,&#8221; he added. &#8220;You look at the group of people who won this prestigious award in the past and it&#8217;s just nice to be in elite company.&#8221;</p><p>Mary Ann Tigue, 79, has dedicated her life as a borough councilwoman to helping the children of Avoca for nearly 30 years.</p><p>&#8220;I was told I won the award for all my service in Avoca,&#8221; said Tigue, the Joseph Saporito Lifetime of Service Award winner. &#8220;Everything I did as a councilwoman was with the best intentions of the kids.&#8221;</p><p>Tigue helped keep open and refurbish the Avoca Community Center. She also helped establish sports leagues that are still in existence today.</p><p>&#8220;Anything I did was never for the recognition,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;I helped the kids because I wanted them to be involved with things. I don&#8217;t want them to do drugs. I&#8217;ll keep helping for as long as I can.&#8221;</p><p>The Readers&#8217; Choice Awards are usually a suit-and-tie affair but switched to a more informal event this time.</p><p>&#8220;We wanted to make this more of a networking event,&#8221; said Times Leader Media Group vice president of sales and marketing Kerry Miscavage. &#8220;This is a great event for us to meet with our friends from Pittston as well as the surrounding areas. It also gives them a chance to meet new people and form new friendships.&#8221;</p><style>
