WILKES-BARRE &#8211; Back on its home turf, Meyers made amends for any lack of offensive efficiency that happened in last week&#8217;s win over Hanover Area.The Mohawks&#8217; Homecoming was a return to the type of offense that the fans on Old River Road have come to expect &#8211; track star-like speed, big explosive plays and a lot of scoring.Meyers showed no signs of slowing down in a 51-27 victory over Susquehanna on Friday night. The Mohawks gained 538 yards of total offense.&#8220;I thought the whole defense did fantastic,&#8221; Meyers coach Jeff Labatch said. &#8220;We gave up a pick-six and a kickoff return. Other than that, what did they get? Two scores. They played solid all night.&#8221;The opening kickoff was simply an omen for a three-hour slugfest. Peanut Wansley took off for 90 yards untouched to give the Sabers an early advantage off the first whistle.Meyers responded with 26 unanswered points. Nazir Dunell ran around two waves of defenders en route to a 61-yard touchdown to cut the Mohawks&#8217; deficit to just one.The Mohawks&#8217; defense, in fact, was able to suffocate any Susquehanna momentum. Leading 7-6, the Sabers reached the red zone; however, Reese Patronick came flying downfield to make a key 9-yard sack on a third-and-3 play. On the fourth down try, Darrian Tyson intercepted the ball at the 2-yard line.Meyers took the lead on that possession. Talee Swinney fooled the Sabers&#8217; defense on a read-option play, skating to a 23-yard touchdown for a six-point advantage.All eight of Meyers touchdowns, as well as Susquehanna&#8217;s four scores, each featured one or more explosive plays.Tyson and Swinney teamed up to amp up the Mohawks&#8217; lead, pairing up for two touchdowns in a 2:04 span. Tyson caught a 9-yard touchdown for a 19-7 lead. On the next possession, the Susquehanna secondary left Tyson unattended as he was able to take a leisurely jog into the end zone for a 67-yard score.Tyson caught seven passes for 154 yards with two receiving touchdowns. Swinney dominated through the air for 250 yards of passing offense.Susquehanna had an onside kick return late in the first half go in its favor. It followed with Adam Rockwell beating his coverage for a 47-yard score. In the third, Mason Deakon trimmed the deficit to 26-19 with a 75-yard interception return with three minutes left in the third.Jabrail Crumbley&#8217;s 73 interception return gave Meyers a 19-point lead that seemed to be the nail in the coffin. Susquehanna responded with a quick Deakin receiving touchdown and its second onside kick. Meyers&#8217; Najese Hood saved an open field chance by twirling a Susquehanna around that caused a fumble that he recovered.
