Quarterback Jose Tabora accounted for four touchdowns and Jason Wiley ran for 90 yards, leading Wilkes to a 34-14 victory over Alvernia in a Middle Atlantic Conference football game at Alvernia&#8217;s FirstEnergy Stadium.With the game tied at 14-14 at the half, Tabora used his legs and arm to give the Colonels the lead for good. On Wilkes&#8217; first drive of the third quarter, Tabora connected with Jeff Steeber for 12 yards before short completions to Nick Yanik and Derek Nelson moved the ball inside the Alvernia 30. From there, Tabora scampered through the Golden Wolves defense for a 26-yards touchdown to put Wilkes ahead 21-14 with 12:40 left in the quarter.It was a lead the Colonels would never relinquish.Tabora finished 14-for-30 through the air for 147 yards while running nine times for 40 yards and three scores. He also caught a 4-yard touchdown toss from Yanik on a trick play.King&#8217;s 29, Lycoming 14King&#8217;s gained 363 yards of total offense on Saturday, as Tommy Klock threw for a season-high 259 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Monarchs to victory.Klock got started with a 76-yard touchdown strike to Jayner Gosper, giving King&#8217;s a 10-0 lead.After that evaporated, Klock hit Jordan Downes with a 50-yard touchdown bomb to put the Monarchs back up, 16-14, 12 seconds before halftime, then found Downes again with a 2-yard scoring toss late in the third quarter as King&#8217;s went up 23-14.Klock&#8217;s 25-yard touchdown pass to Tim Constantino closed the scoring and sealed the win with 4:05 to play.Downes finished with 65 yards on the ground and 68 receiving on four receptions, and Costantino added three catches for 85 yards and a score as King&#8217;s rolled up 363 yards of total offense.Sophomore linebacker Charles McCall posted 14 tackles and four sacks for King&#8217;s.Lackawanna College 29, Erie 10Highlighted by Ja&#8217;yir Brown&#8217;s three interception performance, including one he returned for an 80-yard touchdown, the Falcons outscored Erie.Lackawanna College quarterback Shane McLaughlin threw for 240 yards and touchdown strikes of 16 yards to Javon Turner and 9 yards to Harrison Dreher, while Norval Black caught three passes for 102 yards in the win.FIELD HOCKEYKing&#8217;s 1, Misericordia 0Senior Kelsey Gabriele scored the game&#8217;s lone goal in the 25th minute and the Monarchs&#8217; defense made the goal stand up in a tight win over the Cougars.Gabriele gathered the ball on the right side of the circle and tucked it inside the far post for the 1-0 lead at 24:15 of the game. It was Gabriele&#8217;s sixth goal of the season, as she posted her 90th career point on the score.Monarch keeper Brianne Maluda posted her fourth solo shutout and fifth team shutout of the season, making five stops in the win..Wilkes 3, Manhattanville 2Lauren Shiplett broke a 2-2 tie in the 44th minute with her fourth goal of the season to lift the Colonels to victory.Shiplett&#8217;s game-winning tally came just less than nine minutes into the second half. The freshman received a pass from Zoe Stepanski on a penalty corner and fired it into the goal. It was Stepanski&#8217;s team-leading fifth assist of the year.Dallas Kendra made eight total saves in the cage for Wilkes to earn her 34th career win. Kendra made saves in the 49th, 63rd, and 68th minutes and the Wilkes defense blocked two more attempts to make the one-goal lead stand.Lauren Baldwin and Cheyenne Mazzocca scored in the first half to give Wilkes a 2-0 lead with 16:13 to play in the first half.MEN&#8217;S SOCCERWilkes 3, Delaware Valley 1Jeffrey Eager-Heffner found the net twice as the Colonels won back-to-back games for the first time this season, taking the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Division opener for both teams.Camry Huff sprinted up the left side in the eighth minute and played a cross into the box, when Eager-Heffner one-touched it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.Andrew Reichard played a perfect corner kick that found the head of Shane Henehan for the freshman&#8217;s first career assist for a 2-0 Wilkes lead. Huff tore down the left side of the field on a breakaway and drew the goalkeeper from the net before laying a pass off to Eager-Heffner for an easy tap-in.Wilkes improved its record to 5-3-1 on the season and are 1-0-0 in the MAC Freedom while Delaware Valley dropped to 3-7-0 and 0-1-0 in the conference.King&#8217;s 4, FDU-Florham 0Liam McLoughlin scored two goals, leading King&#8217;s in a shutout victory in the MAC Freedom opener for both.McLoughlin scored his second and third goals of the year on two shots. Peet was right on the spot to kick the ball into the open net for her second career goal at the 69:17 mark.Samantha Cecere recorded her first career victory in net for Wilkes.Misericordia 5, DeSales 1Jeanna Orfanos scored twice as the 16th-ranked Cougars opened their MAC Freedom season with a victory.The Cougars offense struck early and often with five unanswered goals. Maddy Carlo scored the first goal in the 15th minute, then Orfanos nettedgoals in the 17th and 20th minutes. Michaela Fasolino and Saffron Hughes added insurance goals for Misericordia in the second half.King&#8217;s 1, FDU-Florham 0Emily Harrington knocked a loose ball into the back of the net in the 87th minute to lift the Monarchs to victory.Following a thru pass, Harrington ran into the Devils keeper and center back trying to play the ball just outside the box. She recovered, took one dribble to give herself space and buried the ball into the back of the net.Freshman Tara Bender made a career-high nine saves to record the shutout.MEN&#8217;S TENNISWilkes stumbles in semifinalsChris Maderitz reached the late rounds twice, only to fall both times in the semifinals of the ITA Regionals.Maderitz got off to a slow start in the singles semifinals and ultimately fell to Muhlenberg&#8217;s Noah Sellinger, 6-2, 6-4.Maderitz also teamed with Braddock Chow in the eight-game, pro-set doubles semifinals but were eliminated from Flight A competition by an 8-4 defeat.Thier Wilkes teammate Courtney Murphy got off to a strong start in the singles quarterfinals, only to fall 6-4, 6-0.In Flight A singles consolation play, Jonathan White of Wilkes suffered a 7-5, 7-5 defeat.WOMEN&#8217;S VOLLEYBALLMorrisville State 3, Wilkes 1SUNY Cortland 3, Wilkes 0Jamey Mikovich made 23 kills and finished with 16 digs, but the Colonels dropped two matches at the Cortland Invitational.Mikovich led the Wilkes offense with 15 kills and nine digs in Morrisville State&#8217;s 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 victory, while Alex Ferrier tied her season high with 14 kills and Juliet Betke added 19 digs for Wilkes.Mikovich eight kills and seven digs in a SUNY Cortland&#8217;s 25-14, 25-14, 25-21 victory, and Karlye Huffman finished with 19 assists for the Colonels.King&#8217;s 3, Ursinus 0Widener 3, King&#8217;s 0King&#8217;s College swept Ursinus College for the match 25-23, 25-16 and 25-19.Taylor Mueller made 23 digs, playing an integral part of a 25-23, 25-16, 25-19 victory over Ursinus that helped King&#8217;s split a tri-match.Rachel Miller slammed 10 kills in the victory and Becca Goldberg finished the win with seven kills for King&#8217;s.Mueller made 17 digs in a 25-22, 25-17, 25-22 loss to Widener.MEN&#8217;S CROSS COUNTRYShughart leads King&#8217;sNilang Suthar ran an 8,000-meter time of 28:35 to pace the Monarchs at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University.Daniel Michels crossed the line in 29:05 for King&#8217;s, followed by Matt Schoch in 30:00. FIELD HOCKEYCrusaders think pinkThe Coughlin field hockey team will host Holy Redeemer in its annual Pink Game at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Guthrie Field.The festivities will include hot food sales, desserts and raffle baskets, with part of the proceeds being donated to That Special Woman in Kingston.Coughlin regularly hosts a Pink Game in October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which has taken on extra significance at the school during the past few years.
