<p>Luzerne County Community College will hold its 27th annual history conference, &#8220;The History of Northeastern Pennsylvania: The Last 200 Years&#8221; from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at the college&#8217;s Educational Conference Center. The theme of this year&#8217;s conference is &#8220;The Sixties: Mining, Mafia, Music &amp; Mary Jo.&#8221;</p><p>The program will begin with a welcome at 9 a.m. by Thomas P. Leary, president, LCCC. Opening remarks will be provided by William C. Kashatus, Ph.D., associate professor, history, LCCC; and Aimee E. Newell, Ph.D., executive director, Luzerne County Historical Society.</p><p>The first session, &#8220;Decline of the Anthracite Industry&#8221; will begin at 9:30 a.m. Presenter will be Thomas Dublin, Ph.D., professor emeritus of history, Binghamton University and co-author of &#8220;Face of Decline: The PA Anthracite Region in the Twentieth Century.&#8221;</p><p>Dave Janoski, managing editor, The Citizens&#8217; Voice, will present &#8220;Russell Bufalino and the Northeast Pennsylvania Crime Family&#8221; at 10:30 a.m.</p><p>Joe Nardone, Sr., owner, Gallery of Sound Record Store and All Stars Band Leader, will present &#8220;Hard Coal&#8217;s Rock n&#8217; Roll&#8221; at 11:45 a.m.</p><p>The afternoon session will begin at 1:45 p.m. with a panel discussion titled, &#8220;Mary Jo Kopechne, A Promising Life Lost at Chappaquiddick.&#8221; Panelists include Georgetta Nelson Potoski, executor, Kopechne Estate and co-author, &#8220;Our Mary Jo&#8221;; William Nelson, Kopechne cousin and co-author, &#8220;Our Mary Jo&#8221;; and Donald McFadden, investigator, Kopechne exhumation case.</p><p>The conference is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the LCCC social science/history department and the Luzerne County Historical Society.</p><style>
