Lendacky fails to earn council’s nod for Wilkes-Barre parking panel

<p>Five Luzerne County school districts nabbed a total of $170,229 of $8.4 million in Safe School grants awarded statewide Thursday.</p><p>The money will be used for equipment in one district and for school resource or police officers in the others. Here are the amounts and the allowed spending:</p><p>&#8226; Hazleton Area, $24,600 for equipment.</p><p>&#8226; Hanover Area, $45,951 for a school resource officer.</p><p>&#8226; Greater Nanticoke Area, $39,998 for a police officer.</p><p>&#8226; Pittston Area, $39,690 for a police officer.</p><p>&#8226; Wilkes-Barre Area, $20,000 for a police officer.</p><p>&#8220;The Safe Schools Program, which enjoys broad bipartisan support, is an effective tool for local school districts to ensure our children and our classrooms are safe,&#8221; state Senator John Yudichak, D-Plymouth Township, said in a press release. &#8220;In light of the unthinkable tragedies that have occurred at schools across America, it is important that Pennsylvania is making history.&#8221;</p><style>
