United States-China ‘trade war’ will be discussed at Wilkes University

Golf event benefits Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Wyoming Valley Children’s Association

<p>&#8220;Henry David Thoreau, Surveyor of the Soul,&#8221; a documentary film, produced and directed by Huey will have a free showing at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 followed by a Q and A with Huey, the director, along with people interviewed in the film: Rochelle Johnson, Professor of English and Environmental Studies, The College of Idaho, and Sandra Petrulionis, Distinguished Professor of English and American Studies, Penn State University, Altoona, PA. This free event is sponsored by the Endless Mountains Heritage Region and the Dietrich Theater.</p><p>Thoreau&#8217;s classic book &#8220;Walden&#8221; has been part of high school and college curricula for generations. His views on civil disobedience and his retreat to nature are etched in the minds of so many.</p><p>This 2017 documentary film tells the story of this iconic American writer who famously built a cabin on Walden Pond, and dramatizes the impact of his writings today on the way we value our environment, and our beliefs about civil rights, and the rights and duties of individuals.</p><p>Featured in the film are Laura Dassow Walls, author of Henry David Thoreau, A Life; Darren Ranco, (Penobscot), Howard Zinn, Bill McKibben, Robert Bly, Wai Chee Dimock, Megan Marshall, Rochelle Johnson, Kristen Case, Sandra Petrulionis, Robert Richardson.
