It’s Wirth the effort for Wilkes women’s soccer team

<p>Do you celebrate enough?</p><p>Let&#8217;s be honest. We&#8217;re busy people. We have families, obligations, appointments and so much happening each week we don&#8217;t think to celebrate as much as we should.</p><p>I know in my personal life I don&#8217;t make time to celebrate family and friends as often as I should. I&#8217;m working on changing that. Fortunately, though, I work for an employer who believes in the concept.</p><p>At the Times Leader, we celebrate customers several times a year. Our &#8220;Best Of&#8221; events, which we started in this market, have become substantial ways to celebrate multiple times a year.</p><p>We&#8217;re fortunate to have the Best of Times Leader, Best of Back Mountain, Best of Greater Pittston, Best of The Abingtons and Weekender Readers&#8217; Choice Awards events yearly. Our readers vote for their favorite businesses across a plethora of categories.</p><p>The businesses receive awards, recognition and a networking reception where they can mingle with other business owners and their employees.</p><p>They are fun-filled nights held at different area entertainment venues that we&#8217;ve been hosting for more than five years.</p><p>But, long before those celebrations we were helping and honoring the community in other ways.</p><p>Whether highlighting a charity event, writing a story about a local hero or publishing a special life occasion, this paper has played an active role in the lives of Wyoming Valley residents.</p><p>Despite the more than 100 years of service and the numerous philanthropic endeavors, recognition in return has been sparse.</p><p>That changed late in the day on Thursday when the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce announced the Times Leader Media Group had been voted 2018 Legacy Business of the Year.</p><p>What an honor.</p><p>The award is based on a variety of factors: historical perspective, investment in the community, business accomplishments, and company and employee involvement in civic activities.</p><p>I&#8217;m never one to boast about an award if I happen to receive one myself, but I can&#8217;t help talking about this award that we, as a company, received.</p><p>Since I&#8217;ve returned to working at the paper, after a seven-year hiatus, there has been a considerable push on community involvement, giving back and nonprofit participation.</p><p>There&#8217;s also been a sizable focus on hyper-local news, sports and features reporting, which is evidenced daily.</p><p>I&#8217;m proud to be a part of an organization like this.</p><p>I hope you&#8217;re proud of where you work, too, but even if you&#8217;re not the happiest in your current workplace, find something else in life that makes you over-the-moon happy and celebrate it.</p><p>I plan to celebrate at the chamber&#8217;s annual dinner on Nov. 13 and hope you&#8217;ll join me.</p><p>To purchase tickets, visit www.wilkes-barre.org. </p><style>
