Hazleton man pleads to attempted murder for stabbing woman outside bar

<p>PRINGLE &#8212; Concerns that a bed bug may have been discovered at the West Side Career &amp; Technology Center were taken seriously, with &#8220;industry experts&#8221; called in and a room treated in an &#8220;overabundance of caution,&#8221; the school&#8217;s Chief Administrator Thomas Duffy said Monday.</p><p>&#8220;In the last week, there was one bug found that some of the staff had concerns could have been a bed bug,&#8221; said Duffy, who is also the superintendent at Dallas School District. He said his understanding is it may not have been a bed bug, but the company recommended treating the room where it was found.</p><p>Another bug was found Monday afternoon and experts were again called in. Duffy said as of 4 p.m. he did not know the outcome but said they would treat that area as well if needed.</p><p>Duffy said he and other administrators asked if the whole building should be treated and the exterminators said that isn&#8217;t warranted at this point.</p><p>The issue became a larger public concern, he added, when some students apparently shot some video of bugs and posted them, though Duffy said it was clear they were flies, not bed bugs, and that it &#8220;may or may not have been in the center.&#8221;</p><p>Nonetheless, &#8220;that got a few people charged up,&#8221; he said. &#8220;People linked the two.&#8221;</p><p>Duffy said &#8220;there is a sensitivity to any insect in the school setting,&#8221; that could present a risk, and that &#8220;bed bug industry experts were called in and we followed any recommendations they had.&#8221;</p><style>
