SCRANTON &#8212; An exasperated Edge Miller stood with his hands on his knees in between the Wyoming Seminary and Scranton Prep benches Thursday night.Not only did the Blue Knights finish their second game in two days, but they finally got over the hump. After being eliminated by the Cavaliers each of the past two postseasons, Miller and the Blue Knights finally did it.Wyoming Seminary beat Scranton Prep 3-1 in penalty kicks, after a 0-0 draw through after two 15-minute overtime periods to win the program&#8217;s first district title since 2015.&#8220;These emotions are unheard of &#8212; unreal, honestly,&#8221; Miller said. &#8220;Losing two years in a row to these guys &#8212; they say &#8216;third time&#8217;s the charm.&#8217; I guess it&#8217;s true. But it&#8217;s all about hard work when we come out here. Don&#8217;t get me wrong, they work just as hard. It&#8217;s a sucky way to win, sucky way to lose at the same time.&#8220;Hey, we&#8217;re all just happy. We won. Finally.&#8221;It wasn&#8217;t pretty, but at the end of the day, it didn&#8217;t matter.The Blue Knights set out with a defensive game plan and it did just the trick.While the Cavaliers got off 17 shots, there weren&#8217;t many that were clean. And when they were, Wyoming Seminary senior goalkeeper Ryan Anderson was ready.Anderson made 13 saves and kept a shutout through 110 minutes, with the only goal he allowed coming in the third round of penalty kicks.&#8220;They&#8217;re a great offensive team,&#8221; Anderson said. &#8220;They kept the pressure on us. They dominated the ball, but we take pride in defense on our team and it worked out well.&#8221;&#8220;The defense played amazing. Our goal coming into the game was to get a shutout and we did,&#8221; Wyoming Seminary senior Will Zeigler added. &#8220;We tried to get them one-on-one and shut them down. Hopefully, if they were going to beat us, they&#8217;re going to take a touch a little too far and someone else is going to swoop in and just kick the ball away from them.&#8221;Despite the difference in shots and time of possession between Wyoming Seminary and Scranton Prep, Cavaliers head coach Sean Curry said it felt like the Blue Knights had &#8220;a couple extra guys out there.&#8221;The Wyoming Seminary defense made sure to have enough players between the ball and the net at all times, preventing the Cavaliers from getting off quality shots.&#8220;They always seemed to have &#8212; it felt like you were playing against 13 guys,&#8221; Curry said. &#8220;It&#8217;s risky strategy. Sometimes it pays off. Sometimes it doesn&#8217;t. We felt like we were the better possession team &#8212; that we could attack more. We were confident in our defense. We know how they play. They play like this all the time. They&#8217;re used to it.&#8220;So it wasn&#8217;t like they employed some strategy that they haven&#8217;t used before. This is what they&#8217;re good at and their coach is good at keeping them disciplined enough to be in shape when they need to be and make sure there&#8217;s always an extra body behind the defender that&#8217;s marking your guy.&#8221;As the game clock trickled along and got through 80 minutes of regulation and the first 15-minute overtime, Wyoming Seminary head coach Aaron Littzi stressed to his team about the importance of getting to penalty kicks if they couldn&#8217;t get anything going offensively.Penalty kicks are something the Blue Knights practice almost daily, and with Anderson in goal, Littzi was more than confident.&#8220;Ryan&#8217;s the best goalie I&#8217;ve ever seen at penalty kicks, and I knew with him back there, we&#8217;d have a good shot,&#8221; Littzi said.&#8220;I have a lot of progressions and it worked out well,&#8221; Anderson said. &#8220;Went through what I normally do and we won.&#8221;Now the Blue Knights turn their attention to the state tournament.Wyoming Seminary will play the No. 2 seed from District 4 somewhere locally on Tuesday.&#8220;This is my second district win here at Sem and honestly this one has been my most emotional, obviously because I&#8217;m a senior,&#8221; Miller said. &#8220;It&#8217;s my last year. I want to win everything I could (in districts).&#8220;We&#8217;re going to win (states).
