<p>FORTY FORT &#8212; Eleanor Denman testified Thursday her husband of 25 years, William Denman, routinely waited for her on the front porch of their Larksville residence after working the overnight shift as a home health nurse.</p><p>When William Denman wasn&#8217;t there the morning of July 24, she said she went inside to find her husband dead and her 20-year-old son, Ulysses Denman, missing.</p><p>Hours later, police learned William Denman died after being shot twice in the head and son Ulysses Denman was later charged with his slaying.</p><p>After a nearly three-hour preliminary hearing Thursday, District Judge David Barilla determined Luzerne County prosecutors Michelle Hardik, Justin Richards and Myer Messinger established a case against Ulysses, sending an open count of criminal homicide, two firearm offenses and a theft charge to Luzerne County Court.</p><p>Ulysses briefly cried when his mother finished testifying.</p><p>Eleanor Denman, 62, testified she lived with her son inside 588 Washington Ave., and her husband slept in the other half of the double block residence at 590 Washington. She last saw her husband when she left for work at about 10:45 p.m. July 23, and called him when she arrived at a location in Edwardsville shortly before 11 p.m.</p><p>When she arrived home the next day at 7:15 a.m., William Denman wasn&#8217;t on the front porch with a cup of coffee, she testified.</p><p>She went inside 590 Washington and shook her husband, realizing he was dead. She said she then went to 588 Washington and screamed for Ulysses but he wasn&#8217;t home.</p><p>Coroner William Lisman said the deputy coroner who arrived at the house thought William Denman&#8217;s death was suspicious due to two puncture wounds to the head. Mr. Denman&#8217;s body was transported to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital where X-rays showed two foreign objects in his brain, Lisman testified.</p><p>Two .22-caliber slugs were recovered from his head during an autopsy by forensic pathologist Dr. Gary Ross, Lisman said, noting his death was ruled a homicide.</p><p>State Trooper David Kittle, of the Forensic Services Unit, testified one of four firearms registered to William and his wife was missing, specifically a .22-caliber handgun.</p><p>Trooper Robert Richter testified that efforts to contact Ulysses were unsuccessful.</p><p><strong>&#8216;Shoot him again&#8217;</strong></p><p>Authorities got a tip Ulysses returned to 588 Washington Ave. on the night of July 25. As authorities surrounded the house, Ulysses did not emerge despite pleas through a bullhorn.</p><p>Police left but kept surveillance on the house.</p><p>Ulysses emerged from 588 Washington carrying a duffel bag filled with clothes and knives at about 8 the next morning. As he walked down the sidewalk, a trooper arrested him when the grip of a .22-caliber handgun was seen in his waistband, Richter testified.</p><p>Richter said Ulysses was not permitted to carry a firearm due to an involuntary commitment to a mental health facility in May.</p><p>During an interview, Ulysses initially denied being in the house when his father was killed. When Ulysses was told a home surveillance system recorded him inside, Ulysses admitted he shot his father as he slept, Richter said.</p><p>&#8220;He said he went over to his father&#8217;s residence and he shot his father twice as his father was asleep,&#8221; said the trooper.</p><p>Ulysses allegedly told Richter he tossed the first shell casing in the backyard and noticed his father was still alive when he went back inside.</p><p>&#8220;He said his father told him to shoot him again and flee,&#8221; Richter testified.</p><style>
