<p>HAZLETON &#8212; A stop for a faulty tail light turned into a wild chase on city streets, a suspect crashing into a police vehicle, and two arrests, including a fugitive caught with about 100 bags of heroin, authorities say.</p><p>The incident started just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday during another night of saturation patrols when Hazleton Officer Chris Zubris tried to stop a white Chevrolet pickup in the area of Second and James streets.</p><p>The pickup initially pulled over on a side street and a passenger, later identified as Nicholas Hall, got out and started walking away. When ordered to stop, police say Hall got back in the truck and the driver took off.</p><p>After a pursuit that stretched over several blocks, Hall got out of the vehicle and was tackled to the ground by Zubris and another officer near North James and West Oak streets as the truck continued to flee.</p><p>The driver, Michael Ubaldini, raced west on Broad Street and onto Route 924 with Chief Jerry Speziale, Cpl. Keith McAlarney and other officers in pursuit, a press release says.</p><p>Speziale said he was able to get ahead of Ubaldini&#8217;s truck and &#8220;conducted a weaving maneuver&#8221; to slow the fleeing vehicle to approximately 30 mph.</p><p>On Route 924 near the PennDOT shed, Ubaldini jumped the center median in an effort to evade police and ended up striking Cpl. McAlarney&#8217;s vehicle, causing minor damage, the release states.</p><p>Ubaldini then resisted arrest, but was eventually handcuffed by officers, who found he had about 100 bags of heroin, Speziale reports.</p><p>He was taken away in an ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton for treatment of minor injuries.</p><p>Ubaldini, 52, of Archbald, was subsequently found to be wanted on a parole warrant, police say.</p><p>He will be charged with possession of a controlled substance for the alleged heroin, plus fleeing and eluding, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and various traffic offenses. Ubaldini was expected to be transported to the county lockup for an overnight arraignment.</p><p>Passenger Hall, 39, of Hazleton, was taken back to the police station for processing and was found to be carrying needles, empty heroin bags and a tourniquet, the chief says.</p><p>Hall was cited and released.</p><style>
