<p>A Wilkes-Barre woman gave birth to a baby, put the child in a plastic bag, and set the bag next to a burn pile outside a Shickshinny-area home Friday, according to a search warrant obtained Wednesday by the Times Leader.</p><p>The Times Leader is not listing the woman&#8217;s name as no charges have been filed. However, troopers listed criminal homicide as the offense on a search warrant signed by District Judge David Barilla.</p><p>The search warrant permitted investigators to search an apartment in the high rise at the Sherman Hills complex where the woman resides.</p><p>According to the affidavit:</p><p>Wilkes-Barre police responded to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital where the woman was taken Saturday morning for bleeding. The woman claimed she gave birth at a home near Shickshinny and put the newborn in plastic bags next to a burn pile.</p><p>City police contacted state police who responded to the house along Route 239, allegedly finding the newborn deceased in plastic bags next to a fire pit at about noon Saturday.</p><p>The woman told investigators she gave birth at about 2 p.m. Friday while sitting on a toilet. She was unaware she was pregnant until she gave birth.</p><p>She did not know the gender, telling investigators the baby was crying and breathing after birth.</p><p>After she cuddled the baby, she told investigators she walked into the kitchen where she got two white grocery bags from a closet and a clear bag from under the sink. She returned to the bathroom where she placed the baby in the bags, and carried the newborn outside where she placed it on a couch next to a burn pit.</p><p>She used five towels to clean up blood on the toilet, tub, sink and floor, and later laundered the towels inside the home.</p><p>The woman claimed the baby was still crying when she walked outside and placed the bags next to the burn pit.</p><p>She left the Shickshinny-area house at about 6:30 p.m Friday and returned to her apartment in the Sherman Hills high rise, where she experienced a medical emergency due to giving birth. A friend called 911 and she was taken to Wilkes-Barre General sometime Friday night.</p><p>A woman who resides at the home near Shickshinny told investigators that she and her husband were not aware the woman was pregnant. She identified the woman as her foster sister.</p><p>An autopsy on the baby was performed Monday by forensic pathologist Dr. Gary Ross.</p><p>Coroner William Lisman said the cause and manner of death is pending due to the ongoing investigation and further medical testing.</p><style>
