Trump, Macron strike friendly tone in Paris

<p>Operating for 100 years is quite an accomplishment.</p><p>There&#8217;s a lot of hard work, sweat and determination to keep an organization viable.</p><p>On Thursday night, I had the opportunity to attend the Northeast Sight Services Centennial Celebration, honoring the nonprofit on its anniversary.</p><p>Founded in 1918 by Arline Phillips, a totally blind woman, in downtown Wilkes-Barre, it had a simple mission: &#8220;blind persons help themselves.&#8221;</p><p>Today, a host of services are available such as reading services, daily living skills, counseling, braille and reading instruction and recreation opportunities.</p><p>It&#8217;s clear the community knows Northeast Sight Services&#8217; benefits and importance. It was evident by the hundreds of people at the Woodlands to celebrate.</p><p>Guests enjoyed food at various stations: pasta, fajitas, sushi, bacon-wrapped meatloaf and lots more that I simply didn&#8217;t get to sample.</p><p>A silent auction and live auction also added to the night.</p><p>Kudos to Northeast Sight Services staff members for all their hard work in fundraising and raising awareness through community events like this one.</p><p>Another fun event was Friday night&#8217;s Leadership on Tap mixer at the F.M. Kirby Center benefitting Leadership Wilkes-Barre Scholarship &amp; Development Fund.</p><p>Food (courtesy of a bevy of area restaurants), beer, wine tasting and live music were all a part of the annual night for LWB, which seeks to foster civic engagement for emerging leaders and immerse them in the Greater Wilkes-Barre business community.</p><p>You can&#8217;t find nicer groups of people than the teams running Northeast Sight Services and Leadership Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>After a long work day, getting to spend time with the people running these nonprofits is nothing short of a pleasure.</p><p>I hope you&#8217;ll consider spending time with our organization, Times Leader Media Group, this coming week. On Tuesday, we&#8217;re being honored as 2018 Legacy Business of the Year at the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce&#8217;s Annual Dinner.</p><p>Based on historical significance and community impact, the award honors a longstanding business each year.</p><p>It&#8217;s truly an honor.</p><p>As such, our teams are looking forward to Tuesday at Mohegan Sun Pocono.</p><p>If you&#8217;re able to attend the night &#8211; which also includes awards for emerging business, a charitable organization, pride of place, healthy workplace, milestone achievement and a lifetime achievement award &#8211; go to www.wilkes-barre.org.</p><p>There, you&#8217;ll find all the information you need: list of awards, sponsors and the registration option.</p><p>Plus, who doesn&#8217;t like a party?</p><style>
